Countless Centuries Fled Into The Distance Like So Many Storms
TABLE OF THE ELEMENTS
toelp097 Vinyl LP 2008

Another in the cracking series of limited LPs from Table of the Elements in celebration of their 15th anniversary this one comes from Sonic Youth fret-man Lee Ranaldo. Yep, it's another Sonic Youth related missive that we're going nuts about - but you know, sue me, we wouldn't go crazy about it unless it was great and Lee Ranaldo just seems to have the magic touch. I managed to catch the man live a few months ago at No Fun Fest in Manhattan, and even performing blindfolded he had an effortless touch - as soon as his fingers hit the frets you just know it's Ranaldo, there's a sound, a tone, a style that makes you aware who's playing, and in the age of mindless fakery on a grand scale that can't be taken lightly.

This sickly green one sided vinyl issue is no different, featuring four unaccompanied tracks from the guitarist showing his insane control over the axe as he melts and munges it into every which way. Purists might scream noise, but noise listeners will no doubt here something else as Ranaldo shows his usual control of harmony and melody, dampened of course and hidden through swathes of static and distortion. A killer series no doubt, which is showing ever hidden facet of the humble guitar, and as usual we only have a scant few copies of this so please buy quickly to avoid disappointment.
