Issued in a tiny cassette edition during 1982, Solid Space’s sole album Space museum, is an unveiling of the strange world of pop DIY music which grew from the spirit and ethos of punk’s early gestures. Formed by Matthew Vosburgh and Dan Goldstein - a spin off from the British band Exhibit A, the project was an endeavour in sci-fi inspired bedroom synth-pop - falling into similar sonic territory as The Normal, Silicon Teens, Telex, and They Might Be Giants. With original copies selling for hundreds of dollars, this is the first time this heavily hunted album has been reissued in any form - making it a historic event. Setting association aside, for an obscure project Solid Space is far more important than they may first appear. Representing a bubbling spirit within the underground, they foreshadowed an entire world of independent music which would emerge across the 80’s and well into the 90’s. Playful, fun, and a disarmingly sophisticated and irreverent realisation of pop, this is where so much that followed began.
