50 ans de musique électroacoustique - GRM
Fondazione Teatro Massimo
A.L. n.12 2xCD+Book 1998

This is a long out of print (1998) beautiful glossy magazine, written in 5 languages  with a great collection of visual material, giving some background on French and Italian electronic music history, practice and institutions - along with it, a double CD with 57 short pieces or extracts covering the first 50 years of the work of the seminal Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris, starting with Pierre Schaeffer (1948) and ending with Christian Zanesi (1998), selected and compiled by INA.GRM itself for a special edition of this rather obscure Italian Magazine Avidi Lumi, published by the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Of special note on the CDs are rarely heard works of Darius Milhaud Earl Brown, and Philippe Arthuys; otherwise it's a lexicon of essential names: Bayle, Ferrari, Henry, Parmegiani, Chion, Reibel, Dufour, Lejune, Schwarz, Malec, Racot, Pamerud, Xenakis, Terrugi, Leroux, Racot, Stockhausen, Ascione, Amy, Lariviere, Philippot, Canton, Smalley, Carso, Favotti, Boucourechliev,, Risset, Mion, Ceasar and Baillif. Very different Individual styles and the evolution of the new musical language over time are here both closely and usefully juxtaposed. Awesome!

It is wonderful to be able to look through time, year by year, and see how one of the most fascinating adventures of twentieth-century music was built up. A technology evolving at high speed, an aesthetic triumphing with composition after composition, and, above all, a will to go ever further in experimentation with and knowledge of sounds and the perception of music. his, in a few lines, is the content of these 2 CD's. A unique collection of great names of composers, in works that have often become classics in the rich and remarkable world of sounds, over and above notes and instruments.
Daniel Teruggi, Director of Ina-GRM
