Frequenzen [Hz] / Frequencies [Hz]
Hatje Cantz Verlag
ISBN 3-7757-1154-6 Book (+ cd) 2002
a large format book (issued in 800 copies only) about large audio visual exhibition February 2002, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany. The exhibition entitled FREQUENCIES [Hz] brings sound and space together in a multifaceted physical experience. The visitor enters acoustic spheres that transcend conventional concepts of sound and perceptions of space. In a quest for new dimensions of hearing and listening, the exhibition explores the total bandwidth of audio-visual perception in works conceived specifically for this show by leading contemporary artists in the field of ”sound art”. The spectrum extends from works on the threshold of the audible by Mark Bain that intervene directly in architectural structures and physically audible compositions by Franz Pomassl and Mika Vainio to minimal installations by Ryoji Ikeda, works of political and social relevance by Ultra-red and outdoor works such as the site-specific sound and light installation by Carsten Nicolai in the outdoor space of the SCHIRN Rotunda. The show is further extended through sound works by Ultra-red presented in the radio in collaboration with Hessischer Rundfunk hr2 and will be accompanied by an extensive supplementary program compiled by Carsten Nicolai, including concerts and performances. It comes with a CD with
