Inca Ore is the solo vehicle of someone who simply goes by the name Eva. "Brute Nature vs. Wild Magic" is her debut recording and is jaw-dropping. Eva hails from Northern California in the land of the cypress. These 22 minutes are pure bliss. Lying somewhere between Finnish princess Kuupuu and the snow queen herself, Fursaxa, Inca Ore's soft compositions are like an anvil hidden inside a pillow. On the surface, it seems like nothing is wrong and there's a semblance of order. But the deeper you dig, the harder you're hit.  "Rainbows and Inca Teeth" is unquestionably the centerpiece here and puts together all these elements with flying colors. The strained, echo-laden wails (which sound like Eva's saying "meow" over and over again) are piercing. As she stacks the track with her ample vocals, it starts to overwhelm you and infect you. It's disorienting. By the end of the track, she's lowered her voice to a tenor howl. Her vocal range is impressive and is what really reminds me of Tara Burke. It's an impressive track that works itself deep into your skin. "Brute Nature vs Wild Magic" is one of the better debuts in 2005. She has a unique take on solo experimental music and does a great job of weaving her sonic wizardry. I can't wait to see what's next for Inca Ore. 8/10 -- Brad Rose
