Originally released in 1966, 'Meditations' is a turning point for Coltrane. An avant-garde release, widely considered the "spiritual follow-up to 'A Love Supreme'." It features both Coltrane and renowned saxophonist Pharoah Sanders as soloists and finds Coltrane moving into the free jazz territory he started exploring in the early ’60s. This would be the last Coltrane recording with long-time partners drummer Elvin Jones and pianist McCoy Tyner.
