Very last copies....here is the album a whole bunch of us have been waiting for since this was announced this past spring - new music from ohioan synth / guitar trio emeralds ; prob. their first real mass-marketed album after a series of miniscule-editions for american tapes (always loved the title ; “bullshit boring drone band”), hanson, gods of tundra, and their own gneiss things & wagon imprints ...
the two pieces herein deliver on a bunch of levels ; thick swarms of buzzing sawtooth-waves build into huge swaths of sound, with tonalities reminiscent of the “berlin school,” albeit constructed of far more visceral components ... this isn’t your average stock-in-trade synth-droning ; there’s always a swell of activity bubbling under the surface of the tonal overlay, inspection on a micro-level yields all manner of sequenced/gated/pulse-oriented details that flutter in increasingly wide trajectories as the pieces progress ...
one of my albums of the year thusfar, hands down. don’t let the band’s emergence from the harsh-noise / no-fun scenes fool you ; this is as fine a summoning of the electronic ür-sound as you’re likely to come across these days - on par w/ the long-form explorations of eliane radigue, jean-claude eloy, foke rabe, roland kayn, et.al. it is, of course, highly recommended !!!
