Nippon & the Symbol’s record “Universonbangaorfeo” comes at the end of two years of live concerts and performances of the band. Nippon & the Symbol is a band playing music and readings. Tales and novels on this record are from three great italian authors: Italo Calvino, Dino Buzzati and Dino Campana. The band introduces an imaginary travel with Calvino, from life’s beginning to the end of the universe, passing through the rise and fall of dinosaurs and the myth of Orfeus and Euridice. The last three tracks on this work contain readings from Buzzati and Campana. Nippon & the Symbol offers music and text, both with their own identity... sometimes melted together, sometimes isolated, but with none of them as leader or follower. Readings has two different faces: one “standard” reading, a sort of journalist-report of the events (Marco De Marco) and one more “experimental”, visionary (Andrea Reali). The Music: coloured drums painting a visionary scenario; a percussive, nervous, avant doublebass; a flying flute working in the key of contemporary music; a guitar working in dissonance and with dilated sounds mixed with two voices and different kind of readings... this is Nippon & the Symbol. The first “act”: “Il sangue e il mare”[Blood and sea]/”La memoria del mondo”[World’s memory] by Italo Calvino; the second “act”: “Lo zio acquatico”[The aquatic uncle]/”I dinosauri”[Dinosaurs] by Italo Calvino; the third “act”: “L’altra Euridice”[The other Euridice]/”Il cielo di pietra”[Sky of stone] by Italo Calvino. The ending: “Il canto di Orfi”[Orfi’s canto]/”Le streghe della città”[City’s witches] by Dino Buzzati and “Batte botte”[Beats blows] by Dino Campana.
