Anton Bruhin

Born 1949, Swiss painter, palindrome maestro, sound poet and jew’s harp (or Trümpi) virtuoso Anton Bruhin recorded some of the most art-damaged sound experiments of the country between the 1970s and 1980s. Sound-wise, his philosophy and aesthetic is close to that of Jean Dubuffet’s Musique Chauve, or Bald Music, a term coined by French art critic and Satie biographer Jean-Pierre Armingaud to describe Dubuffet’s anarchistic, untaught and uncategorized music experiments

Bruhin’s demons betray a profound sense of the nature of suggestion. But what would a current-day demon look like? The free-floating ghosts of yore, pers…

A recognised master of the jew’s harp (or Trümpi, as this ancient folk instrument is known in Swiss German), Bruhin’s sound work also encompasses tape collage, s…

This unique and imaginistic sound poetry work has been issued on LP by alga marghen for the VocSon series and is now available for distribution for the first time ever. It's a sound poem which takes us into a medieval world of minstrels and errant knights, a phantasmagoria in text and sound. It is also a modern document of the not-yet-existing electronic Sampling Art in the 1970s. Anton Bruhin …
