Faust

The group formed in 1971 in the rural setting of Wümme. They secured a lucrative record deal with Polydor and soon began recording their debut, Faust, which sold poorly but received critical acclaim for its innovative approach and established a devoted fanbase. Faust became one of the premier bands in the international appreciation of the genre that would eventually be known as krautrock. Faust broke up in 1975 after Virgin had rejected their fifth album

IV
The fourth and final album to be released during Faust's original lifespan, originally released by Virgin Records in 1973. "As an album, IV matches the band's trajectory: Jumbled, fragmented, with random data integrity issues, but seeming more the brainchild of inspired pop anarchists than calculating avant-gardists. Yes, the record sounds more 'professional' than any of their others, but somehow that doesn't actually equate to slick sounds: Opener 'Krautrock' (which Irmler says wa…

Faust Wakes Nosferatu
It was a marriage made in heaven (or perhaps hell): the Krautrock legends Faust and FW Murnau's classic silent horror movie Nosferatu, made in 1921. Drawing on music from their 1997 album, Faust Wakes Nosferatu, which was itself inspired by the film, Faust accompanied a screening of the movie with an enthralling, apocalyptic river of sound. The audience was more Faustian than silver-screen. Indeed, a number of Nosferatu purists soon abandoned their seats in horror. Even Faust\\'s fans seemed unc…
The Pyre Of Angus Was In Kathmandu
a rare 7-inch single of studio outtakes by the violin-and-percussion drone masterpiece Outside the Dream Syndicate. Long out of print
C\'est Com... Com... Compliqué
The Bureau B label breaks into new territory and presents a newly-recorded album by Krautrock legends, Faust. "There is no group more mythical than Faust." Thus wrote English musician and eccentric Julian Cope in his classic of the genre, Krautrocksampler. Which says it all really -- neither the habitus nor the music of the six-piece Hamburg group is easy to grasp. Formed in Hamburg in 1970, some lauded Faust as the best thing that ever happened to rock, others dismissed them as shameless dilett…
Schiphorst 2008
This release documents Krautrock legends Faust live before an audience of friends, fellow artists and fans from all over Europe at 2008's Avant Garde Festival -- held quite literally in co-founder Jean-Hervé Peron's back yard in Schiphorst, Germany. A friendly audience yes, but one not easily impressed. Faust did not disappoint... from the spontaneous vocal improvisation during the soundcheck (preserved here as track 1), through the walk-about serenading of Peron's beloved pig with a firework ba…
The last LP
If i might say so, this is my favourite Faust album, a true masterpiece being the unreleased "Faust Party" tapes, Recorded in Germany in 1971 and released by recomended in 1988. This the very first edition limited to 1988 numbered copies with a silkscreened jacket.
Munic & Elsewhere
Featuring material recorded before and after their 10 year disappearance it proves to be as ageless as the Faust legend itself. Their music is as restless as it ever was. Nomadic in their defiance of borders on time and space, their mostly improvised pieces move like sandstorm drifts across the broad span of rock. They occasionally settle on a familiar landmark, only to distort or blanket its shape completely under wave upon wave of crackling electronics and treated guitar. Limited to 1000 copie…
Disconnected
Japan edition. Faust was among the most adventurous and creative German bands of the '70s, and after disappearing for a decade and a half, they reunited in the '90s and made several startlingly good albums. Today, drummer Werner 'Zappi' Diermaier and bassist Jean-Hervé Peron are the only original members, joined by Amaury Cambuzat from the band Ulan Bator. Nurse With Wound, formed three decades ago, is the brainchild of Steven Stapleton, now augmented with Colin Potter. NWW recordings are notori…
Edinburgh 1997
Live at the Flux New Music Festival in Edinburgh. "Three weeks of festival, theatre, pantomime, experimental arts and music. In amongst these, Faust: A legend for the connoisseur, with constantly changing sound experiments over the past 25 years. Faust mixes industrial noise with tattered sounds, jazzy harmonies and rock rhythms. Unfettered and minimalist. A concert at a venue resembling a low, hot cave. There is a huge metal sheet in front of the stage beyond the reach of the audience. Guardian…
