Frances-Marie Uitti

Frances-Marie Uitti (born 1946 in Chicago) is a cellist and composer. She studied at the Meadowmount School, Boston University, the University of Texas and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana. She developed a technique of playing with two bows in one hand, turning the cello into a four-part chordal instrument. She worked with Giacinto Scelsi in Rome from 1975 until his death in 1988, premiering his cello concerto in 2006, and has worked with Luigi Nono, John Cage, James Tenney and Jonathan Harvey. Negoum (Mode) collects nine duo improvisations with Ayman Fanous on guitars and bouzouki.
