Lawrence English

Lawrence English is a composer, media artist and curator based in Brisbane, Australia. In 2000 he founded the Room40 label, which has since become one of the main homes of experimental and ambient music from Australia and far beyond. His own records, among them Kiri No Oto, Wilderness of Mirrors and Cruel Optimism, move between dense harmonic drones and field recordings from Antarctica, Japan and the Australian bush. Across an eclectic array of investigations his work prompts questions of field, perception and memory.
