The Residents

The Residents are an American art collective and art-rock band, based in San Francisco since the early 1970s, best known for their avant-garde music and multimedia works. Since Meet the Residents (1974) they have released more than sixty albums, among them Eskimo, The Commercial Album and the Mole trilogy, on their own Ralph Records and elsewhere. Throughout the group's existence the members have tried to work anonymously, preferring that attention go to the art, and speculation about their identities has been part of the show.
