When Latifa Echakhch was tuning the concept for her presentation at the Swiss Pavilion duringthe 59th Venice Art Biennale, she wondered how it might be possible to alter her visitors’perception of time. Babel assembled fieldrecordings captured at the Pavili…
De Leon returns to Mana, following their 2018 LP, offering a suite of new material that adds further waypoints to the map of their cryptic sound world, deepening and expanding the direction of travel they began within the Aught collective. The dual legacies of Javanese gamelan and minimalist composition remain clear touchstones on this second, untitled album, which employs architectures of repetition and microtonality and evokes the musical heritage of the Bay Area whilst folding in the arid lan…

*300 copies limited edition* Belgian composer Otto Lindholm presents his new LP titled FortyTwo, releasing in early June on Totalism with support from Phantom Limb. Consisting of two complementary entities of equal duration (21 minutes), the album really is one. Together, the two longform pieces are like two sides of one coin, like the two motions of a rocking chair; forwards and backwards. The first piece titled “Reg” explores the simplicity of the stroke with veiled, beautiful melodies, while …

*200 copies limited edition* For many years, Brian Belott has scribbled on paper, making and showing his paintings alongside collages and sculptures. For almost as long, he has scribbled with sound, using his mouth alone to spill language into a pool of abstraction, humor, and musicality. "Sound Scribbles" marks the first-ever collection of Brian’s multifarious work in sound and music, at times beautiful and repulsive, painful and calming, hilarious and disturbing.
Brian is an archivist as much …
Intimaa' (belonging in Arabic) is a documentation of pieces composed for Touch's 40th anniversary celebrations in Los Angeles and Santa Cruz in the Spring of 2022.
Pulling from ongoing research in weaving and textiles, the pieces are informed by the interchangeability of the weaver's process with the sequencing of sound – from sourcing and preparing materials to be woven (recording, editing, and formatting samples), preparing the loom (programming the sequencer), and finally, weaving the cloth (…
Temporary Requiem is a mass for dance - the music score to “Known Mass. No. 3: St. Maurice.” A collaboration with Ann Glaviano, a dance maker and choreographer (and friend since our time together at a girl's Catholic school in New Orleans), it utilizes heavily dissected and altered passages of the traditional Latin requiem mass as the accompanying text across 6 movements. As the mission of “St. Maurice” is to build and break down a lost church over the span of the performance, the music serves t…
*2023 stock* "The new Sagat is truly emotional: the drums are neat and the sounds are warm. Tight groovy rhythms travelling within layers of the deepest dark dub without sounding evident or tried. Familiar but new. Precise funk made of techno frequencies. Reverb and delays that bring butter to your ears: melting the earth onto your body. "Melt" is a body: it has a rhythmic pattern and synths that pop up like a breathing living organism. "Earth" is the landscape: you can visualize it. "Organs" is…

ICR is happy to be releasing the first new solo album by Andrew Chalk in five years, completed in 2022 at Impression Lointaine. Thirteen beautiful melodic tracks that weave in and out of focus in an almost hallucinatory manner, evoking many different moods and emotions."Keeping up with Andrew Chalk’s discography has always been an amusingly challenging endeavour, but the challenge has shifted from pouncing on limited edition physical releases to vigilantly ensuring that he does not quietly surfa…
Tip! Haunted Bedrooms established the Jilk sound with a clash of cascading chamber instruments meeting brittle electronics and experimental noise. Frequently quiet and emotional but also edged with spikes and sharp teeth. On Syrup House, however, the collective dig out a much smoother and sweeter sound. And while ‘expect the unexpected’ should still be your guiding principle, here you can dive deep into luscious droning textures and swelling orchestration which sits alongside the warmth of analo…
