Eliane Radigue
Eliane Radigue, born in Paris in 1932, is a French composer who from 1970 worked almost entirely with a single instrument, the ARP 2500 modular synthesizer, coaxing from it long, slowly transforming drones in which barely perceptible changes become events. She studied intermittently with Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry in the 1950s and 1960s and refined her editing under them in musique concrète. Her great cycles, Adnos, Songs of Milarepa and the three-hour Trilogie de la Mort, grew out of her practice of Tibetan Buddhism and ask for the deepest kind of listening.
