In the summer of 2023, Japanese artist and composer Hideki Umezawa and Italian sound artist Giuseppe Cordaro came together on the small island of Stromboli that sits in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north coast of Sicily. The island is home to Mount Stromboli, an active volcano that has been in almost continuous eruption for the past 2,000+ years.
