Kink Gong

Country: France

Kink Gong is the name under which the French field recordist Laurent Jeanneau documents the music of ethnic minorities, mostly in Southeast Asia and southwest China, and transforms those recordings into electronic compositions. Much of his fieldwork took place in the upland region known as Zomia, in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and China. He lived for many years in Dali, in Yunnan, and is now based in Berlin. Jeanneau has recorded ceremonies, ritual music, singers and gong ensembles.
