Nurse With Wound

Nurse With Wound is the project of Steven Stapleton, started in London in 1978 with John Fothergill and Heman Pathak and, since 1981, effectively a solo venture with a changing cast of collaborators. The first album, Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table and a Sewing Machine (1979), came with a list of obscure records that influenced it, and the Nurse With Wound list has been a map for explorers of strange music ever since. Stapleton's own music is surrealist collage: tape edits, found sounds, drones and voices assembled with a painter's eye and a taste for the absurd.

Contrary Motion
Scanner reworks an hour of Nurse with Wound material into six pieces named after homeopathic remedies: radio static, processed voices and squeaky guitars in an echoing maze. Double vinyl, the fourth side etched by Babs Santini.
Chance Meeting On a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella
Nurse With Wound's 1979 debut, newly mastered from the original 1978 source. Metallic purple gatefold sleeve, purple particle effect vinyl limited to 300 numbered copies. Three long pieces of collage, drones and studio improvisation.
Frightened Birds Head House
“Frightened Birds Head House” is a compilation. It is not a “sampler,” a term that implies the practical function of serving as a label’s calling card. (…) Toward the end of the 1970s, records and cassettes made by independent record shops and individuals rather than large corporations—ones that required little more than a name, a logo, and something they wanted to release—were also playing that role, whether or not their creators intended them to. In Manchester, there was Factory. In Brussels, …
SIC
On SIC, Nurse With Wound and Aranos construct a cold, roaring ambient symphony from metallic percussion, numbing drones and disembodied voices. Long unavailable on vinyl, this edition restores a quietly menacing work where sound sculpture and slow-moving ritual converge, suspended between dread, dream and industrial weather.
A Sucked Orange
*100 copies limited edition* Very, very broadly speaking, there are two kinds of Nurse With Wound albums: the sprawling, immersive, evolving drone-type recordings - think Soliloquy for Lilith, Salt Marie Celeste - and the wild, surreal freak-outs. A Sucked Orange is a prime example of the latter. Originally released by United Dairies at the end of the 1980s, A Sucked Orange has long been out of print, especially on vinyl. Infinite Fog is beyond happy to bring this singular work back as a 2LP pic…
Alice The Goon
On Alice The Goon, Nurse With Wound stretch a single bad dream into half an hour of delirium: queasy not‑quite‑“easy listening” that mutates from lounge lilt to industrial throb, like a Popeye cartoon left to rot in a dripping underground cinema.
Healsgebedda Budgerigar
On Healsgebedda Budgerigar, Nurse With Wound turn memory itself into a delirious tape loop: three long, sample‑swollen excursions where pet chatter, phantom TV themes and street detritus melt into a woozy, psychedelic netherworld of half‑remembered sound.
Rock N’ Roll Station
Huge Tip! A long-overdue return to one of the most singular moments in Nurse With Wound's sprawling discography. Originally issued in 1994, Rock 'n' Roll Station marked a turning point - the album where Steven Stapleton's decades-long engagement with collage, musique concrète, and the outer limits of post-industrial sound first met the hypnotic, rhythm-driven studio sensibility of Colin Potter. What began as a request to rework some of the more percussive sections of 1992's Thunder Perfect Mind …
1984 (A Happening 2)
Limited Edition of 300 copies with handmade covers. A document of singular rarity. Issued by United Dairies in March 2026 in a hand-made, heavy-gauge black vinyl edition limited to 300 copies, 1984 - A Happening recovers the second ever public performance of Nurse With Wound, captured on tape in 1984 and held in Steven Stapleton's archive across the four decades since. The history is nearly mythological. Across the years 1984 to 1986, NWW operated briefly and reluctantly as a live band, performi…
The Iron Soul Of Nothing (2LP)
Rare 2011 2LP set on Ideological Organ with Stapleton and Potter's subtle and drone-y remix of the band's 2000 ØØ Void album.

On the Edge of the Outside
Vasopressin presents On The Edge Of The Outside, collecting four works by Nurse With Wound — three composed in response to texts by Kafka, Tzara, and Forneret, one previously unreleased — on vinyl for the first time. Electroacoustic abstraction, minimalist drones, and grimy ambience, in a limited edition of 300 black and 100 clear vinyl copies.

Shipwreck Radio Volume One (Seven Sonic Structures From Utvær)
2025 Repress This is the original double CD, which has long been out of print, remastered, with additional tracks made with the sounds recorded during the project. The album finds Steven Stapleton and Colin Potter spending time on Norway's lofoten Islands inside the arctic circle with no instruments and minimal equipment and sending regular broadcasts to resonance fm via lofotradioen local radio. This double disc on Potter's ICR label contains 7 of these broadcasts. Windswept field recordings, f…
Lung Oysters
The legendary Nurse With Wound, helmed by the visionary Steven Stapleton, returns with Living Oysters, a mesmerizing collaboration with Irish experimental musician Diarmuid Mac Diarmada. This limited edition vinyl release presents a heady freerange mix of krautrock, experimental and toe tapping psychedelia, leaning towards a slightly more rock orientated sound that pushes the project into exciting new territories while maintaining its characteristic otherworldly presence. Regular Nurse With Woun…
Le Diamant De L'Herbe
*Text in French*  A short story by Xavier Forneret, set to music by Nurse With Wound. A wealthy Romantic, Xavier Forneret published his writings and theater at his own expense. Legend has it that he fell asleep every night in an ebony coffin, which André Breton later opened to recognize one of Lautréamont's precursors. Could Le diamant de l'herbe, a short story here set to music by Nurse With Wound, seems to prove him right...
Shipwreck Radio Volume 1 Part One
First vinyl edition of Stapleton's aquatic transmissions. Hypnotic environmental sound dredged from oceanic depths: warped radio signals, spectral electronics, mechanical groans
