Invisible Angle / Grim Trigger
France Has The Bomb’s new 7″ is now out on Horizontal Action, along with a new Nobunny 7″ and the new Nice Face, which I covered last week. For this entry, I was about to cover the new Nobunny as well to complete the new trio of HoZacs but fuck it, I bet copies of that will be sold regardless. Remember a couple of years back when it seemed like every other band had a RIYL that included Gang of Four? Thing is, 5% of that illustrious group actually sounded like GO4. The other 95%? You can thank la…

I See A Darkness
"Prince" Will Oldham has always threatened to make a completely devastating album and this is it. Brooding and strikingly intimate, I See a Darkness picks through the abandoned camps of Bob Dylan and Neil Young, finding lonely tales and ragged melodies strewn about. The magic comes in the light Oldham is able to shine on these songs, rendering them both gorgeously baroque yet starkly modern.
Camere Zimmer Rooms
Picchio dal Pozzo are considered to be one of the very few 'Canterbury' inspired bands that emerged from Italy's fertile 1970's progressive rock musical scene. They released two highly regarded -- and highly sought after -- albums during their lifetime. The exciting release of Camere Zimmer Rooms, a previously unknown studio recording of all unreleased compositions, extends their legacy greatly! The band formed in Genoa in 1972. They released their first, self-titled album in 1975. The band reco…
Auto Glamour Sound
Experimental punk from Ohio, with BPA (somewhat confused guitar noise with stomping beat), Cointelpro (similar stuff, but more diverse & better, the second song is "real" punk) and 11000 Switches (more stuff in the same vein, sounds a bit like the weirder side of Mission of Burma). Not too catchy but interesting stuff, and thank god they saved us from saxophones and cheap synths.
Evolution
Tamam Shud was one of the most original and innovative Australian groups of the late '60s and early '70s. They played a very important part as pioneers of acid-rock and progressive music. For many years after they split, they were something of a cult, and their original recordings were (and still are) very hard to obtain. The evolution of Shud was typical of many groups of the era, beginning as an instrumental band, through "beat" pop songs and psychedelia, to progressive rock. From the original…
Gudang Garam
Radiomobel are a prog rock outfit from the 1970s, playing the ambitious symphonic rock popular at the time. This issue marks the album's first appearance on CD. First time on CD for classic prog from 1978. Psychedelic symph rock with lots of keyboards and moogs.
Panta Rei
An album which has had a mystical allure for the stoned elite around the world since it's initial release. This rare psychedelic/progressive freak-rock album, released in 1973 on Harvest in Sweden, has great instrumental wealth -- flutes, guitars, maracas, timbales, harmonica, and remarkable percussion -- resulting in five songs with very special character that have, at times, a very North American sound. Panta Rei's tight playing and Thomas Arnesen's terrific searing guitar leads directly resul…
Overhang Party
Japan's OVERHANG PARTY were always one of their country's most interesting, multifaceted and imaginative musical units, and Mutant Music are honored to be able to make their long out-of-print debut LP available once more. Overhang Party and its members, who revolve around founder RINJI FUKUOKA, have always shown a wide range of musical interest and ability, and this LP shows them all at their formative nucleus, offering a glimpse into what would come in later years in addition to enormous immedi…
Waving
Limited edition of 300 copies. Available directly via Important Records only or from the band on tour. This is a mailorder only title. It won't be in shops. The Skull Defekts is a band from Sweden in the very North of Europe. Their intense, monotonous, rhythmic and sexual out rock has since their start in early 2005 been spreading energies of various kinds to welcoming audiences and listeners. The DFX have also been exploring worlds of noise, the drone and psychedelic electronics on waves on rel…
The Chelsea Sessions 1967
This album is essentially the first recording by Robin Williamson and Mike Heron as a duo. What's most exciting about this album is that fans can witness these songs take creative flight for the first time. Most of these selections found their way onto subsequent studio recordings, but there are also a few unreleased songs, including Williamson's "Born in Your Town" and Heron's "Lover Man," which was later recorded by Al Stewart. The discovery of these tapes was made in 1985. They finally saw re…
Hinten
The second album by Guru Guru in 1971 originally released on the Ohr label. Featuring Mani Neumeier (Dr.), Ax Genrich (G) and Uli Trepte (B). Sound engineer: Conny Plank. Reissued with elaborate miniature paper sleeve of the original LP (full color print, coated gatefold sleeve). 2008 digital remaster version, limited to 1,000 copies!
Impressionen \'71
The world of Krautrock was forever changed in late 1987 when the master tapes for the mythical never-released album by the early 70's trio Damenbart were discovered in Spain by a former associate of the band. The incredible find was whispered about in elite collector circles for months and when the tapes were finally played back publicly for the first time, it quickly became apparent that all of the legend and hype that surrounded these mysterious 1971 recordings had been completely justified. T…
Milesago
Spectrum's second album Milesago is one of the key Australian releases of the '70s and a progressive rock milestone. The double album was originally released on EMI's Harvest Records imprint (home to artists such as Pink Floyd, Kevin Ayers, The Move and Deep Purple) -- and you couldn't find a more appropriate label for such spaced-out progressive psych! With its striking Ian McCausland cover art restored, Milesago is presented here as a deluxe 8-panel digipak 2CD set. The album was remastered in…
Part One
To the Australian public at large, Spectrum will always be remembered for the 1971 #1 hit 'I'll Be Gone,' an enduring rock classic if ever there was one. As songwriter and Spectrum lynchpin Mike Rudd has put it: '''ll Be Gone' has had a marvelous life,' with indications that its potency will continue to rise. It still gets played on Australian 'Classic Hits' radio to this day. Spectrum still play the song at practically every gig with the enthusiastic, sing-a-long response of the audience inevit…
Nine For Victor
No-Neck Blues Band are one of those acts that if you like ‘em, you pretty much like everything they’re going to belch out. It’s free improv-pscyh-new-weird-America-jazz-whatever and like their brothers from another mother Sunburned Hand of the Man and Jackie O Motherf**ker they release way too much of it, but you can’t begrudge them that I suppose. I admit, I really have a soft spot for this kind of no-holds barred noisy abandon, and they do put in a sterling performance here; recorded for the ‘…
Scott 4
Despite being the first of his solo albums not to reach the British Top 10, Scott 4 was perhaps his best, and most ambitious album to date. Originally released in 1969, it is the first record to feature only Scott Walker originals. It is also the first to back off a bit from the heavily string laden production of past releases, allowing other sonic influences to shine through, from country to folk to soul. The lyrical content remains intense as Walker tackles everything from War to Stalinism to …
The Drift
The legendary singer-songwriter and one-time teen idol re-emerges with his first album in 11 years. Anyone expecting conventional rock or pop should look elsewhere, however, as it is even more challenging than previous release 'Tilt.'
