Untitled 1-3
This magnificent collaborative album from two of the key minimalist composers of their generation originally crept out in 2004 as one of the very earliest releases on the Spekk label. The album now sees a significant overhaul for its reissue, with an extra two pieces thrown into the bargain plus a remastering job courtesy of Taylor Deupree. Although the original Spekk edition of the album went out of print within two months of its release, a digital version has been in circulation more recently.…
Extented play
Janek Schaefer's illustrious career as a sound artist, turntablist and composer has seen various standout moments over the years, from his postal travelogue 7", Recorded Delivery, on the Hot Air imprint to his collaboration with Stephan Mathieu, Hidden Name. Extended Play ranks alongside Schaefer's very finest works, and one of his most overtly musical, in the traditional sense. Originally conceived as an installation, Extended Play consists of piano, violin and cello each playing a predetermine…
Listening garden
Line boss Taylor Deupree teams up with Christopher Willits, who himself is also a big shot in the world of ambient glitch or whatever one calls it, for a work which they composed for two 'quiet indoor/tea spaces installed at the Yamaguchi Center For Arts and Media in Japan in June of 2004. This is ambient music in the sense that Eno intended it to be when he first thought of it. Music that wouldn't be really present but fill the ambiance in a nice way. Deupree and Willits recommend the listener …
Airforms
Airforms was first presented at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art [Scottsdale, Arizona] in April of 2004. The work was inspired by a group of experimental houses designed by Wallace Neff in the 1940s using a process he called airform construction. The houses were built by spraying concrete over an inflated balloon structure. Inspired by the nautilus sea shell, the houses were an investigation into the aesthetic possibilities of structures formed by air, and the psychological effects of l…
Stage
Stage is Steinbrüchel’s second full-length solo release on LINE. The album contains 10 scenes that move between warm organic and melodic digitalised sounds and cold crystalline-like sparks. The sounds and compositions are even more detailed and have a more melodic approach then previous recordings by Steinbrüchel. Single isolated and stretched tones are structured together with smaller loops and particles of clicks and noises into dense atmospheres. Parts of the sounds used in several scenes are…
CAMERA LUCIDA
"LINE is proud to announce the release of its first DVD, Camera Lucida. The project by Russian/American installation and video artists, Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand and developed in collaboration with scientific laboratories in Japan, Germany, Russia and Belgium, Camera Lucida (chamber of light or lucidity) is a 3-dimensional sonic observatory that directly transforms sound into light by employing a phenomenon known as sonoluminescence: ultrasound, propagating within a liquid, triggers th…
Cistern
Cistern was made in a two million gallon underground reservoir at Fort Worden, a de-commissioned military base overlooking the entrance to the Puget Sound. The space's resonance extended the instruments in a way similar to electronic processing. The acoustic properties of the cistern created new sonic relationships to which the group applied their musical concept. Cistern captures Doublends Vert's first experiences in the sound-world of the cistern. Doublends Vert formed in 2003 through a common…
Monochrome Rust / Differential
As with many LINE releases, describing the hyperminimal microsounds of Bernhard Günter’s Monochrome Rust/ Differential is difficult like telling a sketch artist about the features of a ghost’s face seen from a distance – a long time ago – while you were drunk. Extremely vague yet undeniable! Two single-piece CDs are part of Günter’s “triptychon”, with Monochrome Rust (44:30) being the third piece (following Monochrome White and Polychrome w/Neon Nails). A digital degradation of Polychrome, the t…
Z-menge
LINE is proud to present Z-Menge the new installment of the continuing Mengen series from influential German electronic music pioneer Asmus Tietchens. LINE will be releasing the subsequent works in this series. Zeta-Menge means Zeta quantity.“Another approach to ultimate situations, nearly stillness before becoming silent as Samuel Beckett taught us. End Game. Microtones and structures are only the tools. The Night Of Lead revisited…”Asmus Tietchens’ first released his unique electronic music in…
