Ellison were a Montréal-based hard-rock/ heavy-blues band emerging from Québec’s late ’60s psychedelic scene. With just one album to their name, they left behind a powerful legacy and a rapidly growing cult following.

The band’s origins trace back to 1967, when bassist Richard Arcand and vocalist Vincent Marandola played together in Johnny Peace. In 1969, guitarist Christian Vaeillant and drummer Robert Cager joined forces with them, forming Ellison. Closely tied to l’Association des Orchestres—a collective led by Jean-Claude Brosseau dedicated to Québec’s underground movement—Ellison quickly became part of a rising wave of hard-rock and psychedelic blues acts redefining the local scene.

By 1971, Ellison were building momentum through relentless live performances across college campuses and schools, earning a strong following. In 1972, the band entered the studio with the Supreme label to record their first and only album. Released that same year, the record captured the raw intensity and spirit of their live shows. On March 31, 1973, Ellison performed what would become their last known show in Montréal. Shortly after, they disappeared without a trace from the live circuit, leaving behind a single album and a lasting reputation within Québec’s underground.
