Everybody's Head is Open to Sound is the first publication dedicated to the influential yet often overlooked record producer Tom Wilson (1931–1978). Through newly commissioned essays by music historians Wolfram Knauer and Richie Unterberger, journalist Ignacio Juliá, and essayist Pacôme Thiellement, this volume explores Wilson’s pivotal role in shaping avant-garde jazz, producing key folk-rock recordings of the 1960s, and fostering daring collaborations with major US rock bands.

The book traces Wilson’s career from founding Transition Records in 1955-a pioneering label that documented vibrant jazz scenes and released early recordings by artists such as John Coltrane, Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, and Donald Byrd-to his later work as an A&R executive and producer for Columbia and MGM. Wilson was instrumental in the production of landmark albums for Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, The Velvet Underground, Nico, and The Mothers of Invention. Despite his far-reaching influence, Wilson’s contributions have remained largely unrecognized.

This volume also includes a rare, full-length interview with Tom Wilson and a selection of unpublished photographs, offering new insights into his creative process and legacy. Edited and introduced by Anaïs Ngbanzo, Everybody's Head is Open to Sound provides a comprehensive account of a visionary whose work shaped the sound of modern music across genres.
