Early Works / Things Popping Up From The Past
Michel Banabila, born 1961, is a sound artist, composer, and producer. Banabila releases music since 1983 and has produced musical scores for numerous films, documentaries, theatre plays and choreographies. This album collects 11 songs from his early years, released on tape, vinyl EPs or limited CD editions: beautiful minimal loop-based electronica, neo-classical pieces and ambient drone music. A true discovery!  Numerous threads run through the music of Michel Banabila, whose contemporary work …
Songs from the Shore
In Japanese folklore, Afuma indicates a time of day marked by spiritual or mysterious encounter. In Latin, one who inhales. Together as Afuma, Stefan Tcherepnin, and Taketo Shimada breathe sepulchral energies into the brooding, cosmic fringes of guitar-based song vernacular. Tcherepnin’s baritone and Shimada’s lap steel guitar intertwine, smearing across world’s-end horizons that propel Tcherepnin’s ragged, foreboding vocal delivery and its lyrical portents of departure, of life’s vessel unmoore…
Burn the Night / Bruciare la Notte: Original Recordings, 1983-1989
Burn the Night / Bruciare la Notte: Original Recordings, 1983–1989 is the first archival collection of music by the Italian minimalist composer Tiziano Popoli. In his music, Popoli framed the Italian avant-garde and New Wave of the 1980s through an architectural aesthetic distinctly detailed by a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, Roland TR-909 drum machine, and early sampling technology.
Motore Immobile
To quote Pitchfork, this is 'one of the most sumptuous, spiritual ambient albums of any era or provenance.
Impedance
** Packaged in a deluxe, heavy duty tip-on gatefold sleeves printed by Stoughton; cut by Golden Mastering and pressed at RTI ** Alina Kalancea's Impedance is an entirely instrumental album spanning four sides, contains powerful rhythmic sequences, heart-beating frequencies and hypnotic loops that are paradoxically encapsulated in carefully crafted compositions which are full of secret passages and hidden doors. Kalancea's work creates ungraspable sonic experiences, which overtakes you, immersing…

Songs to the Sirens
*Edition of 200. CD + 8" 36-page photographic booklet.** "This work is loosely inspired by the title of a song by Tim Buckley included in his 1970 album "Starsailor" (a cover version by This Mortal Coil released in the '80s by 4AD was quite formative for me). My passion for the sea, observed, listened and lived mainly - but not only - from the beaches of my land and during winter. A solitary invocation, a project still open, in progress for several years during which the photographs and field re…

Cathedral
Christian Kobi is one of the leading names on the improv scene in Bern, Switzerland. His work includes collaborations with Phill Niblock, Jürg Frey, Taku Sugimoto, and Keith Rowe. His new album, “Cathedral”, closes a trilogy for saxophone solo that started with “Canto” (2010) and “r a w l i n e s” (2013), and which was recorded in the former Swisscom high-bay warehouse - probably the largest underground space in Bern. That space serves Christian as a place of exploration of sound, silence and ac…
Kredsbevaegelsen
Kredsbevægelsen was an A/V installation based on a video projection of a feedback generated from a video camera filming it’s own projected output and feeding back the light information of the space in between camera and projection, returning output as input and retransmitting, producing a discontinuance of difference between action and effect. Frequencies of coloured light are scaled down to audible spectrum and quantised into harmonics. All audio dynamics, variation in amplitude, phase, frequen…
The Reinvention of Romance
“The Reinvention of Romance,” a new work for percussion and cello that examines the care and empathy that emerge when two lives share space. Over the course of 90 minutes, a series of repeating patterns creates a peculiar kind of harmony in which two musicians are rarely “playing together” but are nonetheless intimately bonded. The Knoxville-based duo Two-Way Street (Ashlee Booth and Adam Lion) commissioned Hennies to compose “a very long piece;” for this recording they step into its two intertw…
AAHH!!
The instrumentation is deliberately reduced to the essentials: monolithic drums and analog synthesizers. In this desire for simplicity, meticulous care was taken in the sound recording, then the recording benefited from the work of two experts in the alchemy of sounds: David Fenech and Patrick Muller. Véronique Vilhet: drums. Dominique Grimaud: synthesizers.“A sonic nugget in the shape of rock... Flamboyantly artless and irresistibly direct.” - Julian Cowley, The Wire “Un cri de liberté, ce qui …
BOW
Brussels-based string quintet BOW celebrates musical freedom. Juggling between their own written music and pure improvisation, the ensemble has worked since its creation on a personal and modern approach, digging into their instruments' capabilities and blending a large scope of influences. Its debut eponym LP, due to be released on Sub Rosa, gathers five instantly-composed pieces that were recorded live by Christine Verschorren in the Echo Collective studio in Brussels. During the day, BOW repe…
ENIAC Girls
Seventy years ago, computers were as big as swimming pools and were programmed by country girls. ENIAC, the world’s first fully electronic, vacuum-tube-based universal computing machine, sported a weight of 27 tonnes and used 18,000 vacuum tubes for calculating. And, each day, at least two of those vacuum tubes gave out. When this machine was presented to the world public in 1946, six young women, most of them maths students from the rural Midwest of the USA, had spent three years inventing a me…
Monument of Diamonds
With Monument of Diamonds, Kraig Grady offers a singular entry in the field of microtonal composition, crafting a sound world as immersive as it is otherworldly. The piece, composed in 2020 and realized for a small orchestra of specially built or adapted brass and woodwinds, is structured around the Meta-Slendro tuning - a 17-pitch scale pioneered by Erv Wilson. This tuning infuses the entire work with a crystalline, unfamiliar resonance, letting every phrase and chord shimmer with a sense of sp…
Repetition of the Same Dream
Repetition of the same dream emerged from collaboration under unusual circumstances: during the early Covid-19 lockdown, Clara de Asis and Mara Winter found themselves together in Basel, using both a local church and a midnight tunnel to explore the limits of breath, resonance, and intuition. The album, spanning five works for flute, percussion, and electronics, is shaped as much by its resonant spaces and spontaneous method as by pre-composed material. The duo dissolves rigid lines between comp…
