Antonio Infantino

Country: Italy

Antonio Infantino (1944-2018) was an Italian musician, poet and architect, born in Sabaudia to a family from Basilicata that returned to Tricarico after the war. A figure of the Italian beat scene in the 1960s, he later turned the tarantella and the tarantism ritual of the south into a modern, politically charged trance music, above all with the Gruppo di Tricarico, which he founded in the mid-1970s. Infantino graduated in architecture in Florence. He worked with Vittorio Gelmetti, Sylvano Bussotti, Pietro Grossi and Giuseppe Chiari, and from 1966 he performed at the Folkstudio in Rome.

La ruota della vita
The final recordings of Antonio Infantino, made months before his death in 2018. Twenty-one tracks captured live, with no overdubs or post-production: voice, drum and the circling pulse of Lucanian tarantism, from the Beat poet who rebuilt the trance music of Basilicata into a songbook of his own.
