Claude Debussy

Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and entered the Conservatoire de Paris at the age of ten. He won the Prix de Rome in 1884. He is often linked with musical Impressionism, a label he rejected. His works include Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (1894), the opera Pelléas et Mélisande (1893-1902), the Nocturnes (1897-1899) and La mer (1903-1905). He composed the first book of piano Préludes in 1909-1910 and the second in 1911-1913. Mode's two-CD release presents both books.
