Enno Velthuys

Country: Netherlands

Enno Velthuys was a Dutch musician from The Hague who made quiet, melodic ambient music on synthesizers at home; he died in 2009. He played in several bands in the 1960s before withdrawing to his mother's apartment, where he recorded alone. His tapes appeared in small runs on artist-run cassette labels. Willem de Ridder first played a Velthuys tape on a VPRO radio broadcast, and Rob Smit of Kubus Kassettes then issued Ontmoeting and Landscapes in Thin Air. Hessel Veldman of the Exart label carried on with A Glimpse of Light and Different Places.
