Fairuz

Fairuz (born Nouhad Haddad in Beirut) is a Lebanese singer and one of the best-known voices in Arabic music. She is known for the songs, musicals and films she made from the early 1950s with the Rahbani brothers, Assi and Mansour, and for her later work with her son, the composer and pianist Ziad Rahbani. The stage name, Arabic for turquoise, was chosen by Halim el Roumi. Assi Rahbani wrote her first major hit, Itab, in 1952, and the two later married. Her first large concert was at the Baalbeck International Festival in 1957, which became a regular stage for her and the Rahbanis.
