Gastr Del Sol

Gastr del Sol was a Chicago group led by David Grubbs, whose records came out between 1993 and 1998, for most of its life a duo of Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke. Grubbs started it from the line-up of his earlier band Bastro, and the name joined Bastro with the name of a racehorse. The group recorded mostly for Drag City, ending with the album Camoufleur in 1998. The first line-up had Bundy K. Brown on bass and John McEntire on drums, who both left for Tortoise, after which O'Rourke joined. McEntire still played on later records. The first release was The Serpentine Similar (1993) on TeenBeat.
