Gerald Barry

Gerald Barry was born in 1952 in Clarecastle, County Clare, Ireland, and studied at University College Dublin. He then worked with Peter Schat in Amsterdam, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Mauricio Kagel in Cologne, and Friedrich Cerha in Vienna. He taught at University College Cork from 1982 to 1986. His music is hard-edged, formally complex and often humorous. He is best known for operas including The Triumph of Beauty and Deceit, The Importance of Being Earnest (2010) and Salome (2017). In the Asylum (2003) is a piece for piano trio.
