Martyn Bates

Country: United Kingdom

Martyn Bates is an English singer and songwriter, known first as one half of Eyeless In Gaza, the duo he formed with Peter Becker in 1980. Alongside the group he has kept up a long solo career of songs that critics place between folk and the avant-garde. He is also known for his settings of traditional murder ballads with Mick Harris. Martyn Bates started out with the experimental tape project Migraine Inducers and released his first solo record, Letters Written, in 1982. Eyeless In Gaza recorded for Cherry Red.
