Maurice Louca

Maurice Louca is an Egyptian composer and guitarist, born and based in Cairo. His music draws on Arabic melody, Egyptian shaabi, psychedelia and free improvisation. He is known for solo albums such as Benhayyi Al-Baghbaghan (Salute the Parrot) and for Elephantine, a record made with a twelve-piece ensemble. Louca released his debut Garraya in January 2011 on the Cairo label 100COPIES, followed by Salute the Parrot on Nawa Recordings in 2014. Elephantine came out on Northern Spy and Sub Rosa in 2019.
