Os Mutantes

Os Mutantes are a Brazilian rock band formed in São Paulo in 1966 by Arnaldo Baptista, Sérgio Dias Baptista and singer Rita Lee. They were part of the Tropicália movement of the late 1960s, mixing Brazilian song with psychedelic rock, studio experiments and humour. Os Mutantes backed Gilberto Gil on his 1968 album and appeared on the collective manifesto Tropicália: ou Panis et Circencis the same year. Their debut Os Mutantes (1968) was followed by Mutantes (1969), A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado (1970) and Jardim Elétrico (1971). Rita Lee left in 1972 and the group ended in 1978.
