Rapoon is the solo project of English musician and visual artist Robin Storey, started in 1992 after his years as a founder member of Zoviet France. His ambient music is built from loops, drones and rhythms drawn from traditional music of many regions, beginning with Dream Circle (1992) and continuing through a long series of albums on labels in Europe, the US and elsewhere. Storey studied fine art in Sunderland. The name Rapoon came from his young nephew's way of saying Robin.
*150 copies limited edition* With Ritual and Radio Waves on the Plains of Elysium, his second album for Unexplained Sounds Group, Rapoon conjures the vast, open spaces of the American deserts and plains, translating the experience of crossing those landscapes into sound. The music captures the hypnotic rhythm of endless travel, where time loses its grip and the scenery becomes a continuous, shifting presence: brief flashes of towns, gas stations, roadside stops, night skies, and distant radio fr…
*150 copies limited edition* Robin Storey’s journey through sound is inseparable from the evolution of post-industrial and experimental ambient music itself. As a founding member of the seminal collective Zoviet France, formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1979, Storey helped shape a new sonic vocabulary that blended ritual abstraction, primitive sampling, and immersive atmospheres. When Storey launched his solo project Rapoon in 1992, he distilled that experimental spirit into a more introspective …
The Silent Trumpets carries all the hallmarks for which Rapoon is revered: deep, immersive drones, gentle melodic movement, and an understated sense of ritual that slowly unfolds across the listening experience. From the opener “Real Life” to the luminous closer “Stars Over the Northern Skies,” the album moves through shadow and light, tension and release, crafting a world that feels both intimate and vast.
Pieces like the title track “The Silent Trumpets” and “I Love You” blend warmth with a ce…
On The Third Mind. A Sonic Tribute to the Dreamachine, a constellation of contemporary artists tune themselves to the flicker-frequency of Brion Gysin and William S. Burroughs. Hypnotic loops, drone hallucinations and cut-up sonics seek not to illustrate the Dreamachine, but to let it hear itself thinking.
Since 1992, Robin Storey (founding member of the pioneering post-industrial band Zoviet*France) has been creating innovative and thought-provoking music under the Rapoon moniker. Drawing inspiration from his early days with Z*F, he continues to push the boundaries of ambient, industrial, and world music genres, earning him a dedicated following across the globe. Originally available in 1994 as a limited-edition DAT tape through Staalplaat Records, Cidar was later included as a bonus CD in the re…
Founded in 1992 after Robin Storey left Zoviet France, Rapoon soon became an outstanding ethno-dark ambient project that has gained a cult following all over the world. More than 80 albums have been released over those nearly 30 years, some more beat driven, others more playful and with ambient sounds and ethnic influences. Rapoon has never stopped evolving - think of Cultural Forgeries, an album full of unplugged acoustic music. Or Downgliding, full of compositions on the piano.

* 200 copies limited edition. * Between the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s, the literary and stylistic technique of William S. Burroughs (Saint Louis 1917-Lawrence 1997) influenced an entire generation that was, in those years, in direct collision with the social system. A somewhat controversial and brilliant figure, a man on the fringes of civilization. From his mind emerged the creative writing technique that burst onto the scene under the name of Cut-Up. This procedure was pr…

2024 stock. While an undeliable impression was left in Zoviet France, Robin Storey, a founding member of that seminal group and the man behind Rapoon has continued to leave giant footprints across the landscape of darkambient music. “Just Say The Faith” comes from a very cold and damp place, perhaps inside an ancient abandoned church, where long shadows fall across gnarled tree roots and forgotten voices echo from dusty corners. The colors are black and brown, the elements are Earth and Water, a…

*100 copies limited edition.* On the latest album, Robin Storey once again invites us to a musical journey closer to the exotic world of the Orient, sparkling with many delicately woven miniatures, based on fragments of melodies, heard as if in the deep sleep phase, when sounds and images reaching us from a distance gently fill the space, giving the impression of an integral part of it. Out of nine tracks filled with tribal rhythms, vocals and a wide palette of colors, an extremely coherent, sli…
Raising Earthly Spirits is dark electro-tribal minimalism from Robin Storey (aka Rapoon). He builds organic atmospheres from low drones. The music is beatless, but there is a definite rhythm. Storey's drones create the rhythm and set the pace. Experimental sounds create auras of intrigue and mystery. The sound design is intricate and detached; the dark soundscapes are sinister with overtones of an evil existence. This is not a disc for listening alone in the dark.
*Small repressing of 200 copies on white cover out now!!* Fallen Gods is the third studio album by Rapoon aka Robin Storey, formerly of :zoviet*france:. Building on the haunting industrial ethers of ‘Dream Circle’ and the esoteric, rhythmic dro…
“Hauntology” is one of those difficult philosophy words that seems designed to exist on the margins of our consciousness. The term originates in the work of the notorious Algerian-born French philosopher Jacques Derrida, and is first mentioned in his book Specters of Marx, which was originally delivered as a series of lectures at the University of California in 1993. In Derrida, the concept of hauntology is very much a political one. But the word "hauntology" has gained the currency it has today…

"A Long View Across refers to the feeling you get when touching an artefact that was made more than 7,000 years ago, in this case stone rock carvings in the Cheviot hills in Northumberland. Spread out across the top of the hills lie huge stone tables carved with many petroglyphs weaving in and out of each other. The sites where you find the carvings are all places with fantastic views across the hillsides and lowlands. Places of great beauty and serenity. There is a sense of being out of time at…
"Brief moments of seemingly grasping something previously hidden from view. Snow melting on a deserted concrete platform at a station with no name in an urban wasteland. White trees , limbs outstretched as if barring the way into the deeper woods and the darkness. bone sentinels. A faint memory of once knowing and now forgotten. Elusive and dreamlike the ghosts return." - Robin Storey

**In process of stocking** Vernal Croossing is Rapoon´s fourth album, originally released in 1993 by Staalplaat. One of the most interesting records released by Robin Storey (founding member of the pioneering industrial group ZovietFrance) on vinyl now for the first time.
A magic balance between percussion and electronics, creating mind-bending tapestries of minimalistic patterns and quasi-melodic drones fused with occasional doses of well-placed white noise. An approach much in debt to his 12 y…

A Pale Blue Door takes place in the past, the present and the future, and may involve time travel. The people in the story are trying to live their lives as best they can, but a mysterious spaceman floats in and out of view, affecting them in different ways, and never quite touching the ground. Rapoon is the ethno-ambient solo project of Zoviet France co-founder Robin Storey. The music of Rapoon reflects the fasctination for the minimalistic but rhythmic music of West-Africa and India. Rapoon uses the musical construction techniques of loops and rhythmic repetition as a kind of platform for inducing a sort of trance like reception. The tracks chosen on this Box-Set are tak…
