The Caretaker

The Caretaker was the project of the English musician James Leyland Kirby, from Stockport, active from 1999 to 2019. Kirby built slowed, reverb-drenched pieces from old ballroom 78s, using them to explore memory and its loss. The idea came from the haunted ballroom scene in Kubrick's The Shining. The project is best known for An Empty Bliss Beyond This World (2011) and the six-part Everywhere at the End of Time.
