The Pop Group is a post-punk band formed in Bristol, England, in 1977 by Mark Stewart, John Waddington, Simon Underwood, Gareth Sager and Bruce Smith. The band is known above all for its debut album Y. The Pop Group released Y on Radar Records in April 1979, produced with dub musician Dennis Bovell at Ridge Farm Studios in Surrey. The second album, For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder?, followed in 1980 during the band's time with Rough Trade, with Dan Catsis replacing Underwood on bass. After the band split, its members went on to Pigbag, Maximum Joy, The Slits and Rip Rig + Panic.
