Tim Maia

Tim Maia (1942-1998) was a Brazilian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Rio de Janeiro. After several years in the United States from 1959, he brought American soul and funk into Brazilian popular music and mixed them with samba and baião. He is known for his self-titled 1970 debut LP and for the Racional albums of the mid-1970s, which sold poorly at the time and were later reissued. Tim Maia was born Sebastião Rodrigues Maia. As a teenager he sang in The Sputniks with Roberto Carlos.
