Tyshawn Sorey
Tyshawn Sorey is an American drummer, multi-instrumentalist and composer, born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1980. His work moves between improvised jazz and notated composition. He received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2017 and won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Music for Adagio (for Wadada Leo Smith). Sorey studied jazz at William Paterson University, then composition at Wesleyan University with Anthony Braxton and at Columbia University with George E. Lewis.
