Keeping a record of it
Keeping a Record of It is the follow-up to Lonnie Holley's debut album, Just Before Music. It features recordings made in 2006, 2010 and 2011. Guest performers include Cole Alexander from the Black Lips, Bradford Cox from Deerhunter, and visual artist Lillian Blades.   'Last year, at 62, after decades of singing while he worked, Holley released his jarring debut album, Just Before Music, a marriage of improvised keys and the rambling, hollow bellow of his voice, as well as the first original rec…
Exta
Finally restocked! "Butcher’s sax ranges from soft, whispery purrs to teeth-chatteringly spiteful blasts. Lehn’s analogue synth leaps in a moment from burbling tones to fiercely sizzling abstraction, and Tilbury slips from his familiar melodic interludes and fragmented arpeggios to crashing, seismic attacks on the inside of the piano. What sets this album head and shoulders above similar offerings is the understanding between the trio. It’s not just the way all three move together as one from su…
Associazioni Poro
Alessandro Brivio’s new record is another collection of complex and obsessive rhythmic tracks, reflecting his studies and passion for african aesthetics. The title is an homage to the Senufo secret society (the Poro) and to the Associazione Poro, a foundation of africanists founded by the great italian collector Carlo Monzino.Numbered edition of 200 copies. Transparent vinyl (cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin) with printed labels. Silkscreened cover (black on black carboard), with small inser…
African Rhythms
A landmark of Afro-centric jazz in the 70s – and the first album by this famous underground collective! Oneness of Juju were a Washington DC-based group that grew out of the ashes of the Juju avant jazz ensemble "One of the most groundbreaking bands of their time. From early avant-garde jazz work on the Strata East label to their later fusions of Afrobeat, funk and spiritual jazz, Oneness stand as a huge influence for today's jazz scene. Released in 1976, the African Rhythms album is Onen…
A Republic Of Sadness
Gate is the long-dormant alias of The Dead C's Michael Morley, who releases A Republic Of Sadness as the first Gate release in over ten years. The New Zealand avant-garde lynchpin is on tremendous form for this record, creating a dreamlike procession of slowed down loops, heavily treated vocals, jarring electronic textures and even beats. The first two tracks prove especially powerful, with 'Forever' elegantly crackling through a swathe of string sampling while pitched-down vocals utter…
Noise As a Language
Abstemious Austrian composer who committed suicide in 2007. Two long pieces, one that builds up from violins all making a slightly different type of scratching. The second piece uses computer processing, and does a great job of establishing a droning floor and then dropping through to a lower frequency beneath, or suddenly revealing a pulse without simply fading things in & out. Comes with a book that contains an interview with Zibigiew Karkowski (Weirdo Records)“So the point is that so mu…
No Tears
Their 1978 debut EP, No Tears, was recorded with vocalist Winston Tong and sound engineer Tommy Tadlock. Replete with tense synth swells, devastating live drums and a psychotic ode to the "creatures of the night," the title track is a crucial entry in the synth-punk canon that stacks up next to the best work by UNITS and THE SCREAMERS. Reininger's electric violin congeals with electronic atmospherics to unnerving ends on the instrumental "Litebulb Overkill." Few records do justice to the mania a…
Bari Workshop
restocked: BW hosted a group of medieval miniature manuscript painters who were amongst the experts in the recording of the history of science and who circulated knowledge around the world and across cultures. Greek texts on Euclidean geometry were translated into Arabic, and medieval Arabic manuscripts on optics and geometry migrated to Western Europe, where, translated into Latin, they contributed to the development of perspective in Renaissance Italy.Hand in hand with scholarly interests were…
Thai & Balinese frog rock field recordings
7' (pressed on a 12' platter) and eco sky lantern packed in a custom-made, silk-screened frog rock tote bag. 'Mai Pen Rai is an edition of two releases in one, or how two random recordings of a travelogue fit together and after a four year journey are finally released the first and the third track of the record capture the experience of Maya Lavda in the summer 2008 during a trip to Bali, where, while shooting with her video camera she noticed frog sounds behind a closed door which she followed …
S/T

The Curfew Recordings
The Curfew Recordings were made at a disused industrial site on the river Tyne in 1984 and feature John Smith (then publisher of Interchange magazine), Sean Dower (ex Death Magazine 52 & later of Bow Gamelan Ensemble) And John Mylotte (of the band Metgumnebone). The recordings were made inside a 10m tall and 26m wide, steel-plated cylindrical, structure, once used for bitumen storage. The instrumentation is acoustic and the recordings are unprocessed (the space however adds a remarkable reverb).…
Forma
Sold out at source FORMA (Mark Dwinell, Sophie Lam, & George Bennett) emerged on the NYC minimal synth scene in 2010 with a singular vision of cosmic Krautrock for a new age. On their eponymous debut LP, the Brooklyn-based electronics trio merges the melodic flow and primitive rhythms of their motorik predecessors with the hypnotic drones of Minimalism, creating an intricate work both addicting and rewarding with repeat listens. Like many of the LP's eleven tracks, the churning and relentl…
Silencer
Eldritch electro-acoustic explorer and uncompromising sound artist Luke Younger aka Helm presents his first new material since his Impossible Symmetry (PAN 027LP) album. Issued as a split release between PAN and his own Alter label, Silencer documents four studio actions conducted in the wake of his renowned LP, charting the alchemical relationships between base, stripped-down rhythms, cruddy electronics, and acousmatic source material manipulated on cassette tapes. Features foghorn brass fro…
Sentimental Favourites
Vinyl Lp, edition of 300 copies. The work of the Berlin-based composer Andrew Pekler has been been documented in various releases for labels such as ~scape, Staubgold and Kranky. When asked by Giuseppe Ielasi for some material to be released on Schoolmap Records, Pekler immediately considered the possibility of taking the many unused music fragments that had been collecting cyber-dust on various hard drives and bringing them into some kind of order. Raw sketches, orphaned sounds, finished pieces…

Divagazioni
Sicilian saxophonist, flutist, composer and arranger Nino Rapicavoli is one of the unsung heroes in the world of Italian soundtracks of the 1970s. A musician with a solid background in jazz as well as a long-time member of Italy's state-owned RAI TV orchestra, Rapicavoli has only a handful of library albums to his name, but each is of the highest quality. This Divagazioni ('Ramblings') is probably the best of the lot, an album that mixes jazz, easy listening and a pinch of prog with that …
Lasted
Lasted is the third album by Thomas Meluch under the alias Benoit Pioulard. Thomas has toured throughout North America and Europe since his last record, the process of which has had a marked impact on the development of these songs as lyrics and structures have been scrapped, tweaked and reworked in the live setting. As with previous albums it was recorded and mixed in domestic isolation, this time throughout the rainy season in his current home of Portland, Oregon. While the extent of the…
I Love You, Please Love Me Too
With "I love you please love me too", Joseph Hammer continues his journey into playful yet heavily focused idiot-savant infinite psychedelic inertia. Utilising consumer audio technology and 20th century detritus, Hammer lovingly decodes his passion for mid century sci fi and AM radio station beyond all point of recognition like a snakecharmer. Multi-dimensional audio collage techniques to a free form and completely unorthodox plunderphonic hypnosis. Baked devotionals for tape loop minds. Joseph …
Back porch hillbilly blues vol. 1
LP version. A remarkable collection of hillbilly minimalism, by one of the forgotten heroes. These are blocks of generic material subtly changed by reiteration and lack of development. Like Beefheart, Henry Flynt is one of the rare examples of musicians who fearlessly experimented with the blues and folk forms in the face of all contemporary and experimental music orthodoxies. An important recording and a great listen.
