Jérôme Noetinger

Jerome Noetinger plays a Revox reel-to-reel tape recorder the way other people play an instrument: live, with his hands on the spools, feeding sound in and pulling it back out altered a few seconds later. A mixing desk patched into itself does the rest. Nothing is prepared in advance, which is why none of his concerts can be repeated. From Grenoble he helped run Metamkine, the mail-order service and label that for two decades put this music into the hands of anyone in Europe who wrote in for it, and he has worked for years with Lionel Marchetti and eRikm. The machines he uses stopped being manufactured long ago, and keeping them alive is part of the work.
