Like A Neuron
Richard Youngs is a prolific British musician (located in Glasgow) with an extremely diverse output. Dusted Magazine once wrote he is defying strict genre classifications since the early nineties, swapping labels, styles, partners, motifs, and recording techniques as the desire has struck him. So his new album for Dekorder might not be a surprise to anyone following his career. Still, a self-proclaimed all-electronic 'ecstatic House record' comes somewhat unexpected. With a line of distinctive s…
Qbico U-nite Bruxelles III
Split/collaborative release between Denmark's Family Underground with Finland's Rauhan Orkesteri. Rec. April 19, 2005 @ Cinema Nova.
Abnormal Songs
Originally issued on cassette on the R.E.P. label in the '80s in very limited quantities, then re-issued on a 10 CD-R box set entitled Makoto Kawabata early works 1978-1981 (ltd. ed. 100 copies only). "This is a music that I originally composed for a play called Alice in Nakedland. The play was some erotic expressionist nonsense, sort of like Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Caligari's Crime added together then divided by two. My script was used, but my music was rejected by the other staff members."…
Conrad & Sohn
Gorgeous one-off private-press released in 1981 by one-time Tangerine Dream / Kluster associate Conrad Schnitzler, which was given only to friends and family. Tracks 6-11 are pretty odd, even for Schnitzler, with its pitched up vocals & arbitrary lo-fi synth drippings; but the real prize are tracks 1-5 featuring his teenage son Gregor on electric bass and completely fried vocals (in English no less) as run through Conrad's massive modular synth rig.Limited to 500 pieces. Unplayed archival copy
Automaticism
Sympathy Nervous is the project of Japanese artist Yosihumi Niinuma. Influenced by both classical and Krautrock, he began recording in 1979, and released several records on the highly coveted Vanity label. He continued to record and self-release much of his work throughout the 80s and 90s. His sound is intelligent and probably the most unique minimal synth to come out of Japan. Exploring dystopian themes, his music is well balanced and beautifully recorded.Automaticism features songs Yosihumi Ni…
Tuota tuota
"tuota tuota is the third full-length album by kiila. its songs were born of peaceful, focused work and intense rehearsals with friends, interspersed with sleep and mealtimes. the album features an eight-strong core line-up but, as always, the composition of the group varies effortlessly according to need. at this table, there is room for everyone. as musical form, songs have always been important to kiila, and consequently tuota tuota develops around its songs. on the other hand, the album cons…
The Electronic Record For Children
"Recorded in 1969 , early electronic music pioneer Bruce Haack and child educator Ms. Nelson go bravely and deeply into psychedelic music compositions designed to open the minds and hearts of the young. Truly far out electronic music that evokes a space age alternate universe. Bruce and Ms. Nelson are joined by pianist Praxietellis Pandit and their relaxed sounding friend Chris to bring you songs about everything from ancient folk tales to outerspace to what the world sounds like when y…
Prayer for Chibi
Suishou no Fune originated in Tokyo's fertile psychedelic scene. After landing a spot on PSF's Tokyo Flashback 5 and releasing Where the Spirits Are in 2006, the group ventured out from Japan and took every opportunity to play across the United States and Europe. During one of these trips in the spring of 2007, the group-- down to the crucial duo of Pirako and Kurenai-- went into a recording studio for a few days and laid down these massive new tracks. Prayer for Chibi might be the ultimate Suis…
Cluster II
Beautiful legit 2010 remastered reissue on Brain, deluxe gatefold cover, including a digital download coupon...Cluster II is the second full-length album by German electronic music group Cluster. It was recorded at Star-Studio in Hamburg, Germany in 1972 and was the first release for the legendary Krautrock label Brain Records, a relationship which would last until 1975 and include the subsequent album Zuckerzeit as well as the first two Harmonia albums, a group which included both remaini…
Cairo Free Jazz Band
Restocked, few copies left: the privately pressed Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble 1st album had always been considered as a kind of legendary album, difficult to find (Hartmut confirmed to me that it was pressed in Egypt in only 200 copies)... here are available for the 1st time ever the sole other recordings left of this mythical Ensemble ! it all started with Salah Ragab & the Cairo Jazz Band playing jazz standards and new compositions in the end of the 60's... then, with the arrival of Hartmut, they…
Blind Jesus
A journey in free improv noise ambient performed by a duo comprised of Stefano Pilia (3/4havebeeneliminated) on guitar, audio collages and effects, and media artist Andrew Hooker on electronics. Higly Recommended
Wounded Galaxies Tap At The Window
This is the long-anticipated third album by Cyclobe. Essentially a duo comprised of Ossian Brown and Stephen Thrower, Cyclobe have created a thrilling and compelling collection of music, which moves effortlessly from realms of cavernous cacophony to moments of blissful delicacy. The first new Cyclobe music to surface since their "death-concréte" missile Paraparaparallelogrammatica (an album made in collaboration with Nurse With Wound), Wounded Galaxies Tap At The Window showcases major new …
El Telonero
it took ernesto gonzalez more than three years to record the follow-up for his 'vallée de dith', but it was definitely worth the waiting! 'el telonero' is a tribute to the art of opening up for other bands. this album was created during a period in which gonzalez got more comfortable on stage, often setting the vibe for the night. concentrating on the ultimate tuning-in quality. the loose kraut-inspired jams of his second record are pretty much absent here. the focus is on analog synths a…
Intermezzo
I met Richard in 2004 on a crazy tour in Australia (Oren Ambarchi's last What is Music?). He was a founding member of The Sun City Girls but he came out to play solo. Instantly we were entranced by his playing, so many beautiful elements of why I love guitar come through in his music and presence, without floating around in genre space at all. Here on the road with Kevin Drumm, Dead C, Residents, Gang Gang Dance, Black Dice, etc amongst this insane lineup Richard ended up supporting Pan S…
Jealousy And Diamond
Kranky manage to sieve through the muck and pluck out another breathtaking album, the debut from Autistic Daughters - a collaboration between Dean Roberts, Werner Dafeldecker and Martin Brandlmayr (Radian). Those of you out there (and there are many) who revere Talk Talk’s ascent into heavenly climes with their “Laughing Stock” and “Spirit of Eden” albums will immediately find themselves seduced by this project’s wondrous effervescence. Except whereas Talk Talk emerged from a pop-focused univers…
Fifty-Six
Dark red vinyl. After releasing two unique LPs back in the '60s for the legendary ESP label with his Ritual All 770 and another one for Riverboat, finally Alan Sondheim is back! This is his 1st LP after nearly 35 years and here he plays guitar, alpine zither, electronics, field recordings... as usual he presents us an eclectic mix of fascinating sounds.
Dungeon Dots
Debut LP. Nicole Schneit's soft, clear voice careens across walking bass lines, big cymbals & brassy guitars. Warm, inviting & bittersweet. Features Sharon Van Etten.
Cremations
Absolutely mindblowing album of layered, distorted and decimated 80's synthpop meets MBV style sonic devastation - one of the albums of the year!* Occasionally artists crop up that manage to extract tangible yet ambiguous feelings of darkness while somehow pushing musical boundaries without pause for breath. Cold Cave is one of those artists. His 'Cremations' album for Dominic Fernow's Hosptial imprint is a collection of two EPs and one LP released over the last 18 months, traversing the …
The Mad Excitement, The Barbaric Pulsations, The Incomparable Rh
Smegma has been around, in one form or another, since 1973, issuing an average of a record a year out of odd tape-loops and jarring-yet-ambient original instrumentation long before electronic sampling was even a glimmer in Mr. and Mrs. Casio's eyes. They achieved a small degree of noteriety in the '80s as one of that proud elite of North American new-music acts hiply obscure enough to have European-only record deals. They're also known among the anti-pop sound exchangers of the international cas…
Duets
The rare original LP  released as a hand printed/numbered edition of 1000, designed by Amy Webb."Braxton concentrated heavily on duo performance during this period, and this was one of the happiest of his associations. ...warmly recommended. *** "...these duets are not only stimulating and somewhat challenging, but also surprisingly lyrical and even elegant. The two musicians extract maximum variety from the duo format." --Option Magazine
