Since When Has The Bright Moon Existed?
Chinese-American composer Kui Dong draws inspiration from old forms, employs unusual instrumental combinations, and even commingles four languages within her compositions on this collection of world premiere recordings. The major work Shui Diao Ge Tou and Song is performed brilliantly by San Francisco’s adventurous choir Volti, led by conductor Robert Geary, who also presents the heartfelt Let Frogs and Crickets Carry It On with the Piedmont Children’s Choir. Pianists Sally Pinkas and Evan Hirsc…
phase/transitions
Triple Point is an improvising trio whose core instrumentation is soprano saxophone, greis/electronics and V-accordion. The name refers to the point of equilibrium on a phase plot, which acts as metaphor for our improvisational dialogue. Their musical interaction is centered around an interplay between acoustics, physically-modeled acoustics (v-accordion) and electronics. Van Nort captures the sound of the other performers on-the-fly, either transforming these in the moment to create blended tex…
Ways Of The Voice
Rezas Populares do Brasil, Anamak, Amkéa and Annazone, are vocal works. All the sounds on this disc originate with the Brazilian singer Anna Maria Kieffer. Two works, Anamak and Amkéa, have an "orchestral accompaniment", composed of tropical bird songs. Making use of elements of electroacoustic music and sound poetry, the music expresses wonder at Brazil's tropical beauty and, ultimately, an intense love of the abstraction of words and musical forms.
Quartet For The End Of Space
This recording consists of 8 electro-acoustic compositions - 2 pieces by each of the 4 composers. The works span a vast sonic terrain, challenging listener and performer alike through a seamless blend of Deep Listening and Absolute Noise, moving between ever-fluid improvisation and carefully controlled sound manipulation. The quartet convened for two improvisational sessions between February and May of 2010, with López sitting in on a Triple Point (Oliveros/Van Nort/Braasch) recording session an…
Rounded With A Sleep
Electroacoustic music. Active in electronic composition since 1971, Noah Creshevsky delights in presenting extreme and unpredictable juxtapositions in which the integration of electronic and acoustic sources and processes creates virtual "superperformers" by using the sounds of traditional instruments pushed past human capacities. Creshevsky uses the term Hyperrealism to describe his electroacoustic language constructed from found sounds, handled in ways that are exaggerated or intense. Creshevs…

*Limited edition of 500 units.* Quartet Records is proud to celebrate the centenary of one of the most iconic, elegant and individual voices of Italian cinema for more than four decades: the one and only Piero Piccioni. Shake And Soda is a super-groovy journey to the maestro’s lounge-music side, always fresh, classy, risky and surprising in its form and development. Impressões De Uma Ilha (Unguja)
*250 copies limited edition* A site-specific recording sporting a straightforward approach that i’ve grown to love in the works of Gonçalo Cardoso. An album of modern day exotica, a genre i usually pretty much dislike, yet Cardoso steers his vehicle easily aside the trapdoors and potholes. Combining found sounds, sparse playing and field recordings he creates a world that both invokes Treasure Island, and An Essay On Exoticism. Indeed questions are raised. But especially certain emotions are sha…
Mizukara
*150 hand-numbered copies limited edition* After releases on Eilean rec., Dinzu Artefacts and IIKKI, the fourth album by Masaya Ozaki, "Mizukara", is presented by Laaps. A beautiful immersion in the variety of his sounds imprints, using some field-recordings, electro-acoustic and textures to give his excellence to the ambient range. Masaya Ozaki is a New York/Iceland-based composer born in Niigata, Japan. His work examines the idea of space as a transient entity, the subtleties behind small mome…
Early Works
Italian composer Lorenzo Senni unleashes his first album on the world, and it's a minor masterpiece in ear-searing digital manipulation and exuberant sound design. There's something very much reminiscent of the golden age of Mego about all this, and in addition to the more commonplace Fennesz influences evident on 'pool5' and the like, you'll hear wild and inventive takes on the sort of material explored by Pita, General Magic and Farmers Manual. 'spckrft' is a vicious piece of sonic demolition,…
Seconds
Quartet Records, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, presents the premiere vinyl edition of Jerry Goldsmith’s marvelous score for John Frankenheimer’s sci-fi-horror-drama cult classic Seconds (1966). Seconds starred Rock Hudson – in an astonishing change of pace, as the film campaign ads said – as an unhappy middle-aged banker who agrees to a procedure that will fake his death and give him a completely new look and identity. But it comes with its own price. Jerry Goldsmith’s fascinating sc…

Farfalle Su Foglie D'Ebano
The unprecedented overlapping of sound layers that accommodate the happy melodies of Ermano Librasi's clarinet, between atmospheric intuitions and soft instrumental inlays, make this album a reflective and intense listen, colloquial and restless at the same time.
Stormy Waiter
Stormy Waiter is the brand new album by Giancarlo Schiaffini (trombone, electronics) and Claudio Chianura (samples, electronics), an indefinable, intense, amusing work, eleven tracks of improvisation, electronics, jazz, ambient... To be listened to in one breath

In the Library of Dreams
'I was going to write about how this is an absolutely beautiful and disturbing record, but I think quoting from the liner notes of James Pritchett really does sum it up. 'Frances White invites us to take a walk through her Resonant Landscape. Where are we going? We are walking through the woods, marshes, and streams of New Jersey. She points out the birds and frogs that make their home there, the water that flows through it and the wind that shakes the trees. But then we turn and there is…

Nouveau saxhorn nouveau basse
The tuba player and composer Robin Hayward has introduced revolutionary playing techniques to brass instruments, initially through the discovery of the 'noise-valve', and later through the development of the first fully microtonal tuba in 2009. In 2012 he invented the Hayward Tuning Vine, initially as a visualisation of the harmonic space implicit within the microtonal tuba. Collaborations include such musicians as Roberto Fabbriciani and Charles Curtis, along with composers such as Christian Wo…
