Instant Composers Pool

Instant Composers Pool (ICP) was founded in Amsterdam in 1967 by pianist Misha Mengelberg (1935-2017), drummer Han Bennink and reedist Willem Breuker. It started as a musicians' cooperative and record label, set up so the players could release their own recordings, and its name treats improvisation as a form of instant composition. Its ensemble, the ICP Orchestra, grew out of the same circle, and in later years the label released recordings by its members only.
