Founded in 1978 by Rock Magazine editor-in-chief Yuzuru Agi, Vanity Records captured the cutting-edge musical trends of its time, including new bands working with post-punk values, alternative approaches by musicians who had been in bands, and electronic and industrial music as the cutting edge of the times. Vanity Records is said to be one of the first independent labels in Japan, and is an indispensable part of the independent/indie music scene in Japan from the late 70s to the early 80s. The …

In 2009, Klaus D. Mueller and Schulze began releasing La Vie Electronique ("The Electronic Life"), a series of three-CD sets that reissued all the material previously released in these long-deleted box sets, plus a few unreleased tracks, with all the material put back in chronological sequence (the Edition sets mixed things up, time line-wise). Volume 1 covers the years 1968-1972 and is mainly very interesting. One highlight is "I Was Dreaming I Was Awake and Then I Woke Up and Found Myself Asle…
*Limited edition of 200 copies.* Susana López returns to Elevator Bath with the follow-up to her critically acclaimed album, "Crónica de un secuestro" (2020). That release showcased López's refined approach to audio exploration, which predominantly utilizes field recordings, electronically generated sounds, and layers of vocal harmonics. *Printed inner sleeve and an additional lyric sheet. A download card via Bandcamp is also included.* This is the second album by Cologne-based musician Vomit Heat. The sound and structure of this ten-part masterpiece reveal themselves abstractly in an exceedingly dense surface, in dynamic rhythms, in driving bass runs, flat guitars and synthesizers, combined with a confident and multi-faceted voice. They resound with a density that Vomit Heat created from the countless layers of layered sound he…
Vomit Heat and International Music are artistic relatives. Both come from the Ruhr area in Germany, both love psychedelic rock music and at the same time are also involved in avant-garde projects. Heute is something like a concept single, a multi-layered journey full of hints, references and danceable psychedelia. The title track is taken from the upcoming Vomit Heat album Second Skin, to be released spring 2022.
*200 copies limited edition* A set of islands, emerging from the seafloor, standing isolated from one another above water. *200 copies limited edition* Magazine is a new work for solo cowbell by Sean Meehan. It began with the serendipitous purchase of a small cowbell from the bric-a-brac section of a charity shop, and was composed initially on walks in the city and country, as the bell was an easy companion. As the piece was beginning to take form Meehan was visiting Governors Island, off of the southern tip of Manhattan. There he happened upon the powder magazine of Fort Jay and began finishing the piece over retur…

*In process of stocking* Tip! 'When our friend and inspiration Peter Rehberg passed suddenly in July 2021, I felt like I had to do something, and what I’m good at is something Peter deeply loved, producing records. so I put together this project with some of his longtime collaborators and friends, Lasse and Jérôme, Marcus Schmickler mastering and Tina Frank designing.
it’s titled Top for multiple reasons but one is that Top was often Peter’s entire reply to a message you’d sent, both concise an…
*In process of stocking. 200 copies limited release, CDr format* On Easter Monday of 2019, friends and colleagues reunited at London’s iconic improvisational space Café Oto. The four, Ken Ikeda (Synthesizer), Massimo Magee (Electronics, Saxophone), Joshua Weitzel (Shamisen), Eddie Prévost (Percussion) had met and played together many times in the years prior—usually in the context of Eddie Prévost’s London Improvisation Workshop—but had never performed a public concert together. The group's avan…
*200 copies limited edition, CDr format* As an artist and a thinker, Massimo Magee has been consistently drawn towards patterns: traditions, lines of influence, schools and the unexpected intersections of each. This album, Toneflower, presents a solo programme, meditating on many of those concepts. As an entirely improvised set of pieces, it is also inspired by Anthony Braxton’s solo alto tradition and the larger solo saxophone canon. Similarly, it draws from Magee’s prior percussive experimenta…
Invoking imagery of a narrow, perhaps perilous passage, or its dual meaning, the back of the throat, musicians Amanda Irarrázabal and Miriam Ben Boer Salmón named their collaborative 10-track album, Fauces. In this recording, the duo plays with both concepts in a process of improvisation, creating fiercely lush landscapes, layered with texture, ragged hazy wood against strings. The soundscapes are sometimes imperceptible, shadowy horizons emerging from dim light, and rising, something threatenin…
