Raymond & Marie
Mersault's album, Raymond and Marie, works by undermining expectations, shifting the foreground to the background and back again. A nominally placid passage contains a busy roughness that, without any overt moment of transition, characterizes the moment in question. Similarly, passages of resonant double bass emerge from rough, bracing chunks of sound, dropping after a while into parallel coexistence with electronic drone and muted percussion.
Going fragile
Mattin: gnu-linux computer feedback. Radu Malfatti: trombone. Recorded in 2005. Going fragile is the latest collaboration between Radu Malfatti and Mattin, following 2004's critically lauded "Whitenoise". This album sees them refining their approach; they string incidents of sound along a long axis of time, creating distinct events against a stark backdrop. Group
In the spring of 2005, ekg and Giuseppe Ielasi toured New England, playing both separately and occasionally together. On free days we recorded material together, and continued recording material with the trio record in mind even after parting ways and going to Berlin and Milan. This album consists of compositions by Ernst Karel and Giuseppe Ielasi built with this material
