The Magic I.D. is a Berlin-based quartet exploring the juncture of song forms with abstract music. The band, consisting of Margareth Kammerer (vocals & guitars), Christof Kurzmann (vocals, g3 & lloopp), Kai Fagaschinski and Michael Thieke (both clarinet), formed in summer 2005 after previously being connected via smaller groupings and projects. The musicians expand song forms through the prism of experimental sensibilities and mesh the two remarkably fluidly. 'I'm So Awake / Sleepless I F…
Great follow-up to the Swiss percussionist's first single. It has one side of music created by disturbing the skin of a drum head and another with a kind of spidery almost drumming. There is definitely the sense of a drum head being struck by something, but the touch is so light it really sounds more like rain on the roof of a metal building. Tup !’ - Byron Coley, The Wire, 2010’Here's the second volume of a projected series of four seven-inchers featuring Swiss improvising percussionist Christi…
Initially conceived in Louisville in 1978 from the ashes of two local punk bands by Tony Pinotti, Bruce Witsiepe (coming from No Fun) and Rik and Dave Letendre (coming from I-Holes), the band Circle X moved to New York soon after. They encountered there a young german painter, Ralph Neun, linked to the art school of Darmstadt. Ralph Neun was living in NYC for about a year, and decided to record a song evoking the city: Rolling Stones' 'Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)'. Ralph Neun booked…

At a time when computers dominate music production, this book offers a rare glimpse into the core technology of ear…
About 15 years too late! Finally out. This is the first 7" in a yearlong monthly series of limited 7"es that will really be all over the place. anything goes: from the acid of Pierre Elitair to the mincecore of Agathocles or a prank by Frieder Butzmann! This first one could actually be an lp! As usual with noisecore, grind or mince, this one has more tracks on it than 5 lp's together! 10 songs by each band, Agathocles drills holes in your skull and pours in a cocktail of assgrinding diarrhea rec…
2 sides of bent frown jazz from the hardcore supergroup of Lorenz, Yeh and Jewell. Side a comes on all fifth dimension hard think: violin scrunch and squeal, hard tom rub and dense harmonic blowing pushed right to the front of your brain box, jams a frantic fanfare with locked horn and strings before giving in with a wheeze and a tinkle. Side b's call and answer shies away as fragments fragment into bowed skin, seesaw string microtone and rasped mouthpiece until spunk rock free jizz looseness ex…
Like Yeah Yeah Yeahs undergoing a psychotic episode, or Pocahaunted possessed by the spirit of James Brown, Vibes present four tracks of discombobulated funk and wild, outsider punk on this four song long single. The early, chaotic free-associations of Magik Markers would be a good point of reference too, but these guys place more emphasis on low-down bass grooves wah-wah pedal mutations. The cover shots suggest the band are a bit of a spectacle in a live setting, and the rough, brain-a…
"Hold on gnaw...last but not least..... the NO STATE NO SOUND comp lp. Dont know what led up to it...think I vaguely remember getting "dared" by Nurse Khrust to put out a record of silence by the crew, not sure, but maybe told Haunted Square D about it....but anyhow.....flashblack to an average but killer brewsday in the late summer, got the crew shooting the gip, no biggy, and Square D rolls up with his "Body Morph" one minute silent track....takes a sec to remember but all right...lets do this…

It also fosters the development of young musicians, exposing their work to the world. The 2006 event was the second year this beautiful event took place and hopefully the tradition will continue in the years to come. This …
“23 Frequencies Panoramas - Urban and peri-urban sound-images of Lyon, Saint-Etienne and in between. This record contains about twenty sound images: recordings, or edited recordings, which have been carried out for a few years in Lyon, Saint-Etienne and in betweens. The used recordings have never been distorted or transformed, except a slight filtration when necessary, to reduce some undesirable frequencies, or to reinforce others, which are highly desirable. These sound images deal with …
Jean-Claude Jones (electro acoustic bass, live electronics). This solo bass album is a distillation of my language, the articulation of my voice on my instrument. It is free improvised music, focused on energy and the moment. This project incorporates electro-acoustic sounds and noises, groovy rhythmical games and sporadic forays into melody.
"For whatever reason I am not entirely sure of Maurizio Bianchi hooked up with Siegmar Fricke a lot since he returned to recording new music again. Fricke always seems to have something to do with the music of Bianchi, whether or not it is a collaboration, mastering, mixing or post production. Here on 'Makrokosmikro' its a collaboration with Bianchi getting credit for 'macrowaves, cosmotronics, microloops' and Fricke for 'mactronics, cosmodulations, microblending', which I am sure they have had …
2005. Harold Rubin (clarinet, poems, cover drawing), Jean Claude Jones (electro acoustic bass & live electronics). Recorded on May 2004 & July 2004 at Digi Hip Studios, Hod Hasharon, Israel. This album documents the musical - spiritual meeting between the two leaders of the Israeli improvised music scene. Harold Rubin started the movement on the late 1980's, after his legendary group Zaviot disbanded, leading a long series of ensembles active in the Tel-Aviv area, where he lives. Jean Claude Jon…
This is an original copy of a 1984 privately released avant experimental music Boxset of 3 LP’s (plus a 4 pages informative insert) by the obscure Phren ensemble. The music is very atmospheric and higly experimental/ free improvised not far from AMM, MEV or Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza but more in a 'german' way if i might say so (and if it says something!).
Though classically trained Arthur Russell's major contributions to the music world is in the dance genre. Despite the fact that his pioneering work in the late '70s and on through the '80s was only quietly acknowledged at the time, his long term impact is best described as formidable. Russell's innovative; left field dance records flew way ahead of what people were used to hearing at the time, due in part, to his involvement in New York's downtown avant-garde music scene. He scored severa…
