Eli Winter

Eli Winter (2022) is the self-titled album by the Chicago guitarist and composer Eli Winter, who builds here on his earlier records Unbecoming (2020) and Anticipation, the 2021 collaboration with Cameron Knowler. He leads an ad hoc group, but often steps back to let the others carry the music.

Winter plays acoustic, electric and twelve-string guitar, with Knowler on guitars, Sam Wagster on pedal steel and Tyler Damon on drums. Guests include Yasmin Williams and Ryley Walker on electric guitar, David Grubbs on harmonium, jaimie branch on flugelhorn, Jordan Reyes on synthesizer and Whitney Johnson on viola. For a Chisos Bluebonnet opens the record with Winter in conversation with Knowler and Wagster. Davening in Threes follows at a similar gallop, then Williams joins for an interlude of harmonics. Cooper Crain engineered much of it at Shirk Studios in Chicago, further parts were recorded remotely in several US cities, and Brian Sulpizio mixed it.

LP, Three Lobed Recordings (TLR-140), first released in August 2022. 140 gram vinyl in a full jacket with a multi-sided insert.
