*200 copies limited edition* Wolfe's debut solo LP documents the personal and distinct sound and approach equally to both her abstract sonic instrumental meditations and her understated and haunting song craft and guitar playing. The release, to be experienced as a whole, melds the deeply personal and the cosmically timeless in a complete and holistic way. Amber Wolfe is best known as one half of Zizia (w/ Jarrod Fowler) including their collaboration Pisaura with Michael Pisaro-Liu released on Sedimental in 2020.
Sedimental’s first ever collaborative release with Feeding Tube Records is the debut solo LP from Amber Wolfe Half of Dust. Half of Dust reflects on transformation through human relationships within the context of the dramatic seasonal cycles of the Connecticut River Valley in Western, MA. Composed for vinyl, it is arranged in two halves, with one ambient piece and two lyrical songs on each side. Both the album structure and lyrics are inspired by ancient myths that link relationships between human lovers to the yearly dying and rising cycle of the natural world.
The two ambient pieces are composed from the astrological charts of significant moments, with tones generated from samples of tuning forks that correspond to frequency of each planet. The astronomy of a given day provides an indeterminate melody that is looped and transformed. Ananya Ganesh offered synthesizer improvisation on 7.31.25. The four lyrical songs emphasize the resonance of the human body through minimally processed voice, guitar, and flute. Lyrics explore archetypes including Psyche, Cupid, Adonis, Venus, Pluto, and Persephone. Wednesday Knudsen arranged and performed the flute on To Meet a Flower and Scorpio Moon.
The inspirations and ideas, as well as the music itself for Half of Dust is a celebration of polarities: improvisation/composition; spirit/matter; animal/plant; masculine/feminine; beauty/beast; cosmic/earthly; day/night; asleep/awake; ahriman/lucifer; cultivated/wild… yet best experienced as a whole, melding the deeply personal and the cosmically timeless in a complete and holistic way.
