Abbiamo Tutti I Suoi Problemi
Picchio dal Pozzo is regarded as one of the most original, impressive and highly respected of all the experimental groups to have come out of Italy in the 1970s. They share their original label with Henry Cow's Concerts, and were early invitees to the canonical Recommended Sampler. Aldo De Scalzi, Andrea Beccari, Giorgio Karaghiosoff and Paulo Griguolo all met at infant school and began playing Teleman, Corelli, Bach and Mozart together in their school orchestra. In 1969, Aldo's brother, one of …
Gracilty
a mindblowing archival double cd centered around Laurie Scott Baker, who has been involved in experimental music since he was a teenager. A pioneer of live electronics and graphic scores back in the 60s, a member of the Scratch Orchestra & Peoples Liberation Music with Cornelius Cardew, played many first performances of new music.Gracility comes out of the development of free improvisation & groups such as Scratch Orchestra etc. & the general questioning of the music establishment. Text and grap…

High quality recordings that capture the Arkestra emerging from their psychedelic phase & moving back towards their jazz roots.
Rastakraut Pasta
1st release from the duo of Dieter Moebius & Conny Plank, originally released on Sky Records in 1980. As the title suggests, this album is heavily influenced by dug & reggae & those rhythms are incorporated into the ambient space-rock one would expect from these German pioneers of Kosmische musik.
Oh Me Oh My... The Way The Day Goes By The Sun Is Setting Dogs A
To say Devendra Banhart is unique is an absurd understatement. When I first heard the voice of this completely unknown, precociously talented 21-year-old songwriter, I could not believe it. His occasionally warbling falsetto is alternately bizarre, comical, and often a little frightening. Coupled with his advanced finger-picking guitar style - which itself often veers schizophrenically from gentle grooves into jolting, non-rhythmic stabs and weird harmonic flights of chaos -- and the wildly surr…

It's an organic electrocution without sacrificing the beauty of the …
Hommage Au Sauvage - A Portrait
This portrait of renowned composer Henri Pousseur arrives just days after his death at the hands of bronchial pneumonia, aged 79. The documentary goes some way towards conveying Pousseur's warmth and openness as well as giving some impression of the breadth of his career and its accomplishments. The film documents Pousseur taking one last trip to Basel's Fondation Paul Sacher, to which he's donated his full archive of sound materials, research and memos. In addition to spending time during the j…

Quand Le Son Devient Aigu, Jeter La Girafe A La Mer
Originating from the 1960s’ French jazz scene, Jacques Thollot left a string of unclassifiable recordings ranging from free neo-expressionist explorations for keyboard and percussion to ornate, carefully arranged baroque jazz. But Thollot’s imagination was too rich to enclose him within jazz idiom. His instrumentals, proportional and highly inventive, are often fragile and elusive. His rich arrangements were as lofty as they were airy. Formally impeccable, they were never academic. Were it not fo…
L\'oiseau / L\'arbre / Le Béton
his first solo album, included in the NWW list. Influenced by musicians as diverse as Django Reinhardt and Cecil Taylor, French guitarist Raymond Boni has developed a unique and dazzling style derived from gypsy technique. After studying the piano and switching to the harmonica, Raymond Boni learned how to play the guitar with Gypsies living near his home. This empirical experience would leave a permanent imprint on Boni's approach to the instrument. In the early '60s, still a teenager, he decid…
Sarcelle Locheres
A mindblowing masterpiece, of course included in the NWW list: Red Noise's one and only album was originally released near the end of 1970 on the legendary Futura label. Red Noise was a radical, inventive avant rock band with some improvised jazz elements, as well as a heavy dose of Zappa-esque humor. The first side is a bunch of interconnected tracks, some of them much shorter than a minute, like the opening piece, "Cosmic Toilet Ditty," which consists of footsteps and a toilet flush. Quirky so…

I Don't Wanna
LP version. After nearly a year on the assembly line, we're tickled to unveil the 5th in Locust Music's ongoing archival releases of Henry's work. He's made his mark with his brand of ecstatic North Indian Raga inspired minimalism on C Tune (Locust3), the full bodied experimentalism anthologized on Raga Electric (Locust6) and the avante-hillbilly bumpkin fiddle joyride on last year's Back Porch Hillbilly Blues Volume 1 & 2 (Locust 16 & 14). Now it's time to make a place in your heart for I Don't…
Man From The East
Originally released in 1973 for Island Records, “The Man from the East” was the soundtrack to a fascinating theatre-piece Yamashta presented in Paris and London in 1972. Several of these songs (‘Poker Dice’, ‘One Way’, ‘Memory of Hiroshima’) appeared on the film soundtrack of The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) and have since attained mythical status among fans.
Freedom Is Frightening
Originally issued by Island in 1973. Stomu Yamash'ta is a master percussionist who studied jazz drumming at Berklee School of Jazz. In the 1970s, he recorded a string of innovative albums for Island records fusing his percussion talents with jazz, electronic and classical music. Freedom Is Frightening features a fine band, including Soft Machine bass guitarist Hugh Hopper and guitarist Gary Boyle. It was a fine achievement which propelled Yamash'ta to a wider audience which would eventually lead…
