Reissue of this long sold-out cassette on Gift Tapes. Mind Over Mirrors is Jaime Fennelly, harmonium player and electronics builder, whose unique approach to sound manipulation has established him as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary experimental music. Before launching his solo project, Fennelly was a member of the junkfolk band Peeesseye and the psychedelic free jazz trio Acid Birds, experiences that inform his multifaceted approach to electronic sound sculpture. Fennelly creat…
Here’s a split LP from prolific dark electronic noise weirdo and NNCK founder Pat ‘Decimus’ Murano. Lovely screenprinted sleeve and has one track by the former and two by the latter. In an era where compositional abstract music has been co-opted by studious arrangers obsessed with process, where forbears have been kidnapped by pop stars, and where the noiseniks have all turned to techno beats, this split LP by Decimus (Pat Murano) and Hobo Sonn (Ian Murphy) presents a triumphant return to the fr…
Jason Meagher (No Neck Blues Band, Black Dirt Studio) and Pat Murano (No Neck Blues Band, Decimus) have sporadically been releasing material as K-Salvatore since 1995. The sparse and disturbing electronics captured on this LP, their first since 2006, reflect the dark and cold of the winter's night on which they were created. Edition of 300 in jackets silk screened.
"Been a long time since we heard from K-Salvatore, an offshoot of The No-Neck Blues Band that features Pat Murano (Decimus/Key Of Sh…
"NNF debut (after an EP on 100% SILK) by this Iowa City electronic maximalist. M.R.E.M. is the first purely solo Cuticle release, after working with a series of part-time collaborators, and it's freed him to let loose his wildest and weirdest impulses."
The edition is limited to 287 and vinyl comes in three different colors: marble orange, marble white, and black. The record is housed in a 12" cloth bag, with front, back and inner fully screen-printed with artwork reproducing a painting by Roberto Opalio. Secret messages are written between the grooves and both sides' center labels, that feature mysterious, full-color portraits of Ramona and Roberto respectively on each side. Each copy hand-…
The two major focal points in the creation of composer Duane Pitre's Feel Free, his new work for a unique sextet combination, were rhythm and melody. An open yet orderly system intended to produce potentially infinite variations of self-generating rhythm and melody was carefully created for this piece, allowing the sextet musicians to approach these factors in a freer manner. This 'musical system,' combined with the fixed elements of the composition, in turn, spawned a rich foundation of harmony…
300 copies. Félicia Atkinson is having a very productive 2011. The French musician, artist, and writer has released tapes and CDs under her own name and the moniker Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier, establishing herself as an increasingly important voice within experimental music circles. Currently based in Brussels, Atkinson represents a new generation of artists who seamlessly blend musical composition with visual art and literary expression, creating works that transcend traditional categorical bou…
A warm, filled-with-rich-tones reissue of one of the earliest tapes of Charlatan, the synthesizer project of Brad Rose, one of the most active and influential figures in contemporary experimental music. Following his acclaimed Triangles LP on his own Digitalis label, Equinox represents Rose's second vinyl release under his Charlatan moniker, offering a mesmerizing journey through synthclouds and starchords layered over a carpet of pristine white hiss. Originally released on cassette via House of…
300 copies. Hans Dens returns with his second vinyl offering on Aguirre Records, delivering more synthcrapings and zonked adventures in lo-fi music under his Innercity moniker. Following up his 7-inch release on NNA Tapes and an LP on Release The Bats, Terrestreality sees Dens continuing to search and destroy conventional electronic music boundaries with his distinctive approach to damaged audio and otherworldly synthesis. The Belgian synthscaper and anti-musician has established himself as a un…
Transamorem - Transmortem was premiered on March 9, 1974 at The Kitchen in NYC, where the music programmer at the time was Rhys Chatham - this was right before his guitar phase. During this period, 'Transamorem - Transmortem' was presented along with other compositions by Eliane Radigue in a linear mode of listening, although the piece had originally been conceived, during its composition, as a sound installation. Of course, both modes of listening are possible, and each works marvelously in its…
'Bo Weavil presents a sublime duo recording from old sparring partners Oren Ambarchi and Robbie Aveniam recorded live in Tel Aviv in 2009. This is a single edit of the performance which perfectly captures the chemistry between Robbie's busy percussive maneuvers and Oren's textural overlay. A previous performance of the pair was documented on the 'Clockwork' CD (re-issued by room40) and prior to this the notorious 'The Alter Rebbe's Niggun' CD was released on Tzadik. Here, the two come together w…
2011 release ** "Shadow Of Events is the third album by Oslo, Norway sound artist, producer and musician Alexander Rishaug, following his Asphodel CD Possible Landscape (2004) and 2001's Panorama on the Smalltown Supersound label. The album was recorded over a five year period and mixed in Berlin last year. Not unlike his previous albums but apparently more refined Shadow Of Events combines a warm and organic haunting quality blended with both abstract and concrete tones and subtle digital noise…
A single, long, deeply moving, slow and expanded drone-track, built on everchanging sonic masses, low frequencies, strong electric/electronic sounds, field recordings, feedbacks, buzzes, hisses, rough distortions, sunken organ chords, subdued inserts of strings orchestral parts. Alternation of progressive crescendos, ambiental stasis, sudden, dramatic and catching dynamic shocks... An involving and extraordinary "trip" across an obscure sonic path, convincingly assembled in collaborative form by…
Extended sonic fluxes of synthetic nature mixed with delicate acoustic and electric guitars chords and riffs, crowd noises, indefinite and fading melodic "spots" of unknown origin, feedbacks, echoes, pulsations, vibrations, cracklings, rustling waves in continuous movement... But also sudden pauses, unpredictable and improbable inserts of folk blues radio transmissions, crystal clear water sounds, static, wrapping and dramatic electronic weaves, metallic tickings... An extraordinary range of sou…
"Cool Cruel Mouth" is Larsen's 9th full length studio album and marks 15 years of activity with a fine collection of textural, cinematic, haunting, nocturnal songs. Written and recorded in 2010. "Cool Cruel Mouth" finds the band as a 5 piece with the full time addition of lyricist Little Annie "Anxiety" Bandez as the official voice of Larsen. Also featured on "Cool Cruel Mouth" is inimitable Baby Dee playing piano on one of the two featured instrumentals as well as on her own composition "Unhear…
First meeting of experimental musicians Keith Rowe & Radu Malfatti in a 3 disc set: one disc of compositions by Jurg Frey and Cornelius Cardew; one disc of their own compositions; and one disc of improvisation. Keith Rowe and Radu Malfatti are two of the most influential experimental musicians in recent decades, each with extensive bodies of highly distinctive work and a combined 80+ years at the forefront of their respective areas of exploration. On Φ, their first meeting ever is documented via…
2006 release ** "Songs is the much-anticipated follow-up to Parisian sound designer and musician Sébastien Roux’s beautiful CD Pillow (Apestaartje, 2004). The simple title of Songs hides a deep work that Roux states is based in mathematics, symmetry (and assymetry) and organized randomness. Songs is a skillfully and beautifully rendered album of gentle and sometimes not-so-gentle acoustic instruments and melodic granular clouds. Each song is titled simply by the instruments that make it, thus st…
2004 release ** "12k presents Every Action, the 3rd full-length release from the UK’s Motion (Chris Coode) and the follow-up to 2002’s critically acclaimed Dust (12k1019). The work on Every ActionPictures was p…
This is the final chapter for this project run by Gianluca Becuzzi - well known for his old dark wave project Limvo but also for his solo works and collaborations with Fabio Orsi. Final Archives is a sort of collection of rare tracks recorded from 1999 to 2006 totally reworked and remastered in 2009. Absolute Grey is the title that Kinetix gave to his graphic artwork selection exhibited with an ambient score specifically composed for the exposition space. The exhibition is made up of ten grey sc…
Norwegian guitarist Håvard Volden (12-string guitar, objects) and Japanese master Toshimaru Nakamura (no-input mixing board) recorded these two pieces in Norway in 2008, creating what one Norwegian reviewer calls "a timbre based album with some auditory surprises." The music is "slow and quiet, with contrasting elements. A cutting tone, a crackling flicker, or a deep bass tone gives the progress colour. It is exciting to listen to an expression that moves with this much unpredictability."
