Alessandro Alessandroni

The whistle in A Fistful of Dollars is his, and so is the twanging guitar: Alessandro Alessandroni (1925 to 2017) gave Sergio Leone's westerns their signature sounds, and his vocal group I Cantori Moderni supplied the wordless choirs behind Ennio Morricone's scores of the 1960s. Composer, conductor, arranger, mandolinist, guitarist, accordionist, sitarist and pianist, he worked on more than fifty soundtracks of his own and collaborated on thousands. Born in Rome, he also wrote a large body of library music for labels such as Cometa and Octopus, records made for television and cinema use that collectors now prize for their psychedelic, exotic and erotic moods.
